Instructor - History teaches courses in the discipline area of history. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - History typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.   • The Middle School History Teacher is expected to demonstrate patience, humility, integrity, and kindness while performing daily duties. The teacher must be devoted to prayerfully work with administration, faculty, students, and parents to develop and maintain the school. The teacher shall teach the school’s curriculum and develop attitudes that will assist students in becoming responsible, respectful, and who glorify God. Teachers may supervise student teachers, assistants, and volunteers.


    Essential Job Functions

    • Teach classes as assigned following the scope and sequence of curriculum.
    • Ensure students are informed of each lesson objective before instruction begins and effectively assess their ability to complete the objective successfully.
    • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, challenging each to do their best work.
    • Keep daily and weekly plans.
    • Assess the learning of students, communicate it to parents on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required.
    • Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating them with dignity and respect.
    • Establish and maintain proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises.
    • Be trained in CPR/First Aid.
    • Cooperate with the Board and Administration in implementing policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school.
    • Cooperate with the Board, Administration, staff, and parents in accomplishing the goals and outcomes of the school.
    • Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-organized classroom.
    • Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with student, parental, staff, or administrative conflict.
    • Seek the counsel of the administrator, colleagues, and parents while maintaining a teachable attitude.
    • Work with administration to order curriculum.
    • Oversee special events.
    • Assist in developing/maintaining a positive school climate that encourages orderly conduct by students.
    • Demonstrate leadership and support of the educational/administrative philosophies of the school.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education/Experience Qualifications

    • Distinguished in the educational community.
    • Bachelors (BS) in Elementary Education or Business Administration, or other field related to administration or education, with a Master’s in Educational Administration preferred.


    Certifications

    • Teacher Certificate from (ACSI), other applicable accrediting organizations, or ability to obtain such within two years of hire.


    Other Qualifications

    • Familiarity with PCs and software applications, including Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, email, and common utilities.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with emphasis on presentation skills, interpersonal rapport, and confidence in communication with the full constituency of the organization, including Board, faculty, students, parents, coworkers, volunteers, and community contacts.
    • Excels at taking independent initiative while fostering team work and collaboration within the organization.
    • Skilled at managing projects, leading efforts, and providing measurable results.
    • Must be able and available to work long hours and non-standard work days.
    • Impeccable integrity in handling confidential and/or sensitive information and situations.

    • Communication Skills: You must be able to speak clearly to students, other teachers, parents, and administration officials.
    • Instruction Skills: You will have to explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority and in a clear and concise way so that students can You must work to keep the students' attention.
    • Planning and Organizing: You must properly plan and organize the delivery of lessons, curriculum, exercises, activities, and other educational items.
    • Ability to analyze student performance data.
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver appropriate instructional strategies in the classroom.
    • Subject area knowledge.
    • Ability to provide appropriate educational environment and experiences based on developmental needs of students, and behavioral management techniques.
    • Current knowledge of educational trends, methods, research and technology.
    • Writing Skills: Teachers write progress reports, notes home, and in the case of postsecondary teachers, publish research. Writing skills are critical.
    • Patience: The students you work with will have different backgrounds and abilities. Patience will help teachers deal with students who act out or have trouble following the material.
    • Creativity: Teachers have to find ways to involve students into their lessons. Additionally, teachers may have to work with different learning styles to get the most out of each student.
    • People Skills: Engaging parents and creating healthy relationships with students and faculty will help create a quality learning environment.


    Physical Demands


    The work is generally sedentary to light and may require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to sit and stand for long periods.

    • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
    • Visual Acuity: Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision.
    • Walking: Ability to move on foot for long distances or moving from one work site to another.


    Schedule

    • Standard schedule is Monday – Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
    • Weekday evenings and weekend hours may be required for events and meetings.
    • Schedule may vary for school events and meetings.
