Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - History typically reports to a department head.     Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,282 - $23,306 (based on salary points 1-36), please see the UCSC Salary Scales and refer to the Non-senate Instructional (NSI) Unit 18 Pre-six Lecturer Academic Year scale. Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) valuation may vary, and the course salary will be adjusted accordingly. Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year (see Summer Session Faculty and Lecturer Pay).
    Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned.
    Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2023 through fall quarter 2024. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
    Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

    The Department of History at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers with expertise in the fields of history of East Asia, history of Southeast Asia, and history of South Asia. Please refer to the UCSC Course Catalog for a list of the department's courses.

    Applicants with a demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the university level are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Internal candidates will be given priority consideration.

    Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
    • Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in history or related field.
    • Evidence of teaching experience at the university level.
