Being an Instructor - Law provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Law typically reports to a department head. The Office of the West Virginia Attorney General is hiring law clerks for the summer of 2024. Summer law clerks will have the opportunity to work with multiple divisions within the Office, gaining exposure to many practice areas. Divisions include: Civil Rights; Consumer Protection & Antitrust; Criminal Appellate; Education, Arts, State Agencies & Boards; General Counsel; Health and Human Resources; Medicaid Fraud Control; Solicitor General; and Tax & Revenue. Once accepted, clerks will express their preference regarding which divisions they will be assigned for rotations. All clerks will have the opportunity to serve a rotation in the Criminal Appellate division, where they will fully prepare and draft an appellate brief under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Many clerks will have an opportunity to work with the Solicitor General’s team, which handles high-level litigation matters in federal courts. Past clerks have had the opportunity to work on a variety of cutting-edge issues, including matters in the Supreme Court of the United States. All clerks will live and work in Charleston, West Virginia. The clerkship is compensated and will run for approximately 12 weeks; starting and ending dates are flexible.
