    Job Description

    PURPOSE

    The Harte Research Institute (HRI) seeks a Law Fellow for a one-year term beginning September 2023, with the possibility of extending it to a second year. The program offers the unique opportunity to work directly with researchers of all coastal and marine specialties while focusing on law and policy. Harte Research Institute promotes a sustainable Gulf of Mexico by promoting interdisciplinary research involving science, economics, and law. In addition, the Fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with HRI's world-class researchers onsite in Corpus Christi. The majority of the Fellow's work will be researching and writing policy papers, legal memoranda, and at least one lengthier article for academic law journals or external publications on legal issues related marine and coastal ecosystems and resilience. The Fellow will be encouraged to pursue research and writing on marine and coastal law topics that interest them. Curiosity and a creative mind are a plus. The Law Fellow will report to and work collaboratively with the Chair of Marine Policy and Law at HRI, as well as with other research faculty and staff. Assignments include legal and public policy research, writing, and collaboration across all substantive HRI program areas. More specifically, it is expected that the Law Fellow:

    DESCRIPTION

    Perform substantive research and analysis on coastal and marine issues to develop policy papers useful to audiences of all backgrounds.
    Work in coordination with HRI researchers to develop and implement projects and programs consistent with HRI's mission.
    Represent HRI publicly as needed to communicate and develop particular programs and projects, including presentations.
    Enhance HRI's interdisciplinary approach
    Produce an article on a topic of their choosing related to the Gulf of Mexico's coastal and marine health that will advance the goals of HRI, and present at an appropriate conference.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Terminal degree from an accredited law school.
    You must have passed the Bar within the United States
    You must have practiced law at least one year, preferably at a judicial clerkship.
    You must demonstrate an interest in marine and coastal law either by professional experience, including internships, or by submitting an original written work in that field unedited by others
