Position Title: Nursing Instructor Tutor and Remediation Specialist.
Department: Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Program.
Immediate Supervisor’s Title: Dean of Health Sciences and Program Directors.
Term of Position: 9 Months Temporary.
Minimum Requirements:
In addition to the requirements for an associate degree nursing instructor, the educator must possess the following:
- Master of Science in nursing preferably nursing education with an unencumbered license to practice in the state of Mississippi and satisfies a criminal background history.
- Have at least 2-3 years of teaching nursing students.
- Work a minimum of 6- 8 hours per week.
- Easily master new concepts to empower students in meeting their academic goals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions, and deliver feedback in a timely manner.
- Have technology skills to conduct virtual contact and navigate tutorial software utilized in the course specific programs including office equipment.
- Interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external colleagues.
- Adapt to performing under moderate stress when dealing with confronted by students experiencing a crisis.
- Knowledge of nursing programs’ practices, procedures, rules, and regulation.
Position Description:
A nurse educator who is patient, highly-driven, flexible, and empathetic toward students experiencing challenges in the academic area of their program of study. The educator must provide individualized tutorial services for students requiring assistance in the associate degree and practical nursing program. Referrals are made by the advisor and/or instructor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a learning environment for an one-on-one or small group to develop an individualize study guide using academic best practices.
- Assess and evaluate student’s learning styles and needs.
- Assist students with assignments, projects, test preparation, research, and other academic tasks.
- Teach students effective note-taking, study and test taking strategies to improve academic success.
- Assess student’s performance and thought process to determine the best method in assisting the student to internalize concepts and put into practice effectively.
- Provide student with in-depth knowledge on course specific content through additional resources, assignments, and test-taking strategies.
- Maintain all records of tutoring and provide documentation of student’s progress and/or the need for other referrals.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties and responsibilities as well as immediately correct any deficiencies.
- Develop an efficient and effective process to report, monitor, and assess tutoring sessions.
- Collect and analyze data based on student’s performance and develop an individualized study plan to enhance students’ success in their specific program of study.
- Maintain an enthusiastic, self-reliant, and self-starting approach to meet job responsibilities with minimum of supervision and instruction.
- Attend on campus and off campus faculty development.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Dean and/or Program Directors.
