    Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate- Physics

    Position Purpose:

    The postdoctoral research associate will play a key role in a multi-institutional project to examine the interaction of moisture, buoyancy, and turbulence in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer (MABL) with wind farms. The PRA will use the generalized quasilinear approximation in concert with immersed boundary methods to study the interactions of multiple wakes with the MABL. This will require running simulations using the Dedalus framework, analyzing the resulting data, and validating the results against wind tunnel data supplied by our partners at the University of New Hampshire’s Flow Physics Facility and the Brown University wind tunnel.


    Job Duties:

    • Run suites of Dedalus simulations of turbines embedded in the MABL
    • Analyze data stored in HDF5 format using python, matplotlib, numpy, and scipy
    • Troubleshoot complex, parallel simulation frameworks
    • Develop validation methods for comparing GQL simulations with wind tunnel data
    • Communicate results at national conferences, including the American Physical Society’s Division of Fluid Dynamics annual meeting
    • Participate in inter-collaboration meetings, including travel to Durham, NH and Providence, RI


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education

    PhD in atmospheric science, oceanography, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field required.

    Experience

    Expertise in computational fluid dynamics.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Commitment to equity and inclusion, and serving the needs of a culturally and educationally diverse community.
    • familiarity with computational fluid dynamics
    • experience with high-performance computing, including queuing systems and batch submission systems
    • experience with scientific python (numpy, scipy, matplotlib)
    • Ability to manage complex projects and workflows independently
