Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Psychology typically reports to a department head.   • This Psychology Instructor position works closely with other Psychology faculty in overseeing the Psychology curriculum at the college. The Psychology program’s curriculum has been designed to provide our students with a broad-based understanding of theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, and core-content areas in the discipline.

    Instruction: 
    • Use appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understand and utilize available technology as communication and data gathering tools and integrates technology into curriculum and classroom presentations
    • Develop and teach online and/or hybrid versions of the standard courses.
    • Develop and teach new courses in response to diverse community and student needs and interests.
    • Maintain regular office hours, provide timely responses to student inquires, and advise/assist students so that they become more likely to succeed both within their Chemeketa experience and the broader educational community
    • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

    • Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports  
    • Maintains student records of grades and attendance in accordance with college procedures 
    • Responds to student inquiries and provides feedback in a timely manner

    • Maintain an awareness of current trends in Psychology and incorporate these trends within instruction
    • Actively participate with other faculty in regular departmental duties and in the on-going planning, oversight and assessment of the Social Science program college curriculum
    • Actively participate in college and community committees and functions as a representative of the Social Science program.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's degree or higher in Psychology from an accredited institution

     ------OR-----

    Master's degree or higher in a closely-related academic field with 24 graduate hours in Psychology
    -AND-
    Experience teaching in a variety of modalities including in-person, remote, hybrid, and/or online

    Core Competencies
    • Demonstrable experience providing culturally responsive instruction
    • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Area of specialty in Applied Psychology
    • Strong desire to teach a variety of psychology courses, both in-person and online
    • A sound understanding of the community college learning environment and a commitment to the comprehensive community college mission
    • At least one year, or equivalent, teaching at the post-secondary level, preferably at a community college
    • The desire, ability, and dedication to employ technology as an effective instructional tool in the delivery of courses
    • The ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, educational partners and community members who span a diverse range of cultures, languages, nationalities, socioeconomic, and educational experience
    • The ability to effectively teach adult learners
    • A desire and commitment to create a classroom environment focused on active learning in which all students are welcomed and encouraged to participate
    • Bilingual English/Spanish

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    • This is a 100%, 10-month faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade
    • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
    • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
    • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
    • If requested, you must supply official transcripts within 30-days of hire
    • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
    • Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks. Only information relevant to the position will be considered. An individual with negative information on their background inquiry will not necessarily be denied employment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

    Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

    Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
