    Description

Union Institute & University (UI&U) is a national, non-profit university offering Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees for adult students. The Bachelor of Science major in Social Work at UI&U invites applications for the Program Chair Core Faculty position. This position is a remote, year-round, full-time appointment (with benefits).

Union's Bachelor of Science major in Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Our social work program's mission is to empower adult learners to apply professional knowledge, skills, ethics, and values for generalist social work, emphasizing social justice and social change.

Our social work program goals are to prepare students to emulate the social work profession identity, ethically grounded with cultural competence standards, demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based practice, and prepare students for leadership and graduate education.

Students choose social work at UI&U because of our small, personal learning community and our program's flexibility to support diverse, non-traditional, and working students while maintaining responsibilities to their families and careers.

Administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Provide leadership, vision, and strategic thinking in academic planning and all aspects of the social work program.

    • Periodically review university academic regulations and guidelines to uphold the academic integrity of courses and university policies.
    • Develop orientation, course schedules, program-specific policies, and procedures.
    • Manage and supervise administrative roles and responsibilities of faculty.
    • Work with internal and external constituents to develop new program initiatives.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to recommend promotional materials.
    • Participate in and attend all university-assigned committees and faculty meetings.

    • Create and contribute to explicit and implicit curriculum progress development toward social work program accreditation.
    • Evaluate and assess learners' academic and interpersonal readiness for the SOW profession.
    • Participate in learner-related administrative functions (i.e., field evaluation, academic reviews, and admissions interviews).
    • Contribute to learners' professional development as generalist social workers.
    • Teach SOW program core content courses.
    • Conduct professional student advising.

Service and Scholarship responsibilities include the following:

    • Provide faculty advising support for social work student organization(s).
    • Maintain a productive research agenda, scholarship, and professional development.
    • Serve on departmental, academic, and university committees/assignments.
    • Provide Program and Field Education Information Sessions to educate social work students, other UI&U departments, and the general community and support to recruit prospective students.

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Hold regular virtual "office hours."
    • Other duties as assigned by the Vice-Provost of Academic Affairs.
    • Assist with student recruitment and the admissions review process.
    • Must be able to construct student notes, reports, and related correspondence.
