  • The School of Social Work in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University invites applications for a Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor of Social Work starting July 1, 2024. In addition to teaching, this candidate will serve as a Field Coordinator. This is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track position with full benefits. Teaching Instructor and Teaching Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms of up to three years, with no limit on the number of terms. These positions are eligible for promotion (e.g., Teaching Instructor to Teaching Assistant Professor; Teaching Assistant Professor to Teaching Associate Professor, etc.); however, promotion to senior ranks is not a requirement for institutional commitment and career stability.

    In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will coordinate field education internships for undergraduate and graduate students. The coordinator will join a field education faculty team dedicated to excellence in field education. The coordinator will engage in cultivating internship sites; coordinating internships with students and agencies; field education assessment activities; maintaining a database of agencies, affiliation agreements, and field instructors; contributing to field education policies and procedures; accreditation reporting; teaching, advising, and academic and professional service. The teaching load is eight courses or course equivalents per calendar year.

    The WVU School of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and enrolls approximately 350 students across BSW, MSW, and PhD program levels. The BSW program prepares graduates for generalist social work practice. The MSW program prepares graduates for advanced integrated practice. The PhD program prepares graduates for independent research, teaching, and leadership. The School is ranked among the top 75 schools of social work in the nation and includes a dynamic and collegial faculty committed to impactful research, teaching, and service.

    WVU is a R1 research land grant university located within 90 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours from the Washington/Baltimore area.     Qualifications


    The successful applicant must meet the following requirements:

    • A master’s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited institution. Master’s degree candidates will be eligible for appointment as a Teaching Instructor. Candidates who have a master’s degree in social work and a doctoral degree in social work or a related field such as counseling, sociology, psychology, or education will be considered for appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor.
    • A minimum of two years of post-MSW professional social work practice.
    • The ability to teach, develop courses, and work with students.
    • Strong potential for innovative internship cultivation and student advising strategies.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
