    Scope of Position: FEC Financial Coaches will be responsible for providing high-quality, compassionate individualized financial education and coaching needed to empower individuals to manage their income and experience financial independence for successful operations of the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) in partnership with the Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Fund and the City of Pueblo.

    The ideal candidate would be dynamic, committed, and bilingual, speaking and writing in English and Spanish, with strong interpersonal skills. This candidate would have a passion for helping others and making a difference, working with clients to evaluate their needs, develop personal goals and provide tools to be successful in building a foundation of financial stability and the opportunity for upward economic mobility. A background in banking or finance is not required, training and a path to financial counseling certification will be provided.

    Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) Background
    The Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund(CFE Fund) is promoting Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) replication through cohorts of local leaders. The FEC program aims to improve the financial stability of households by providing free, high-quality, one-on-one financial education and coaching. Professionally trained coaches support their clients in navigating complex financial challenges and choices, helping them identify and meet present challenges and future ambitions. FEC clients receive assistance with money management, budgeting, reducing debt, establishing and improving credit, connecting to safe and affordable banking services, building savings, and referrals to other services.     Essential Job Functions:
    Program Delivery

    • Builds rapport with clients to cultivate trust and engagement in coaching sessions to successfully assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans.
    • Communicates with third parties including collection agencies, lawyers, and lenders on behalf of clients to verify or resolve billing or collection errors, disputes, and negotiations.
    • Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wraparound supports (i.e. benefits, tax preparation, banking access) into coaching to achieve greater results.
    • Engage in ongoing follow-up with clients to increase client retention.
    • Collect, track, and report required data using client management database.
    • Follow required protocol and program requirements.

    Travel and Training

    • Participate in initial Certified Financial Counselor training and ongoing professional development opportunities.
    • Local travel to meet with partners and provide appointments at co-locations.
    • Regional and national travel for professional development, shadowing, and conference attendance.

    Other Duties

    • Other activities as necessary in support of United Way of Pueblo County including occasional assistance with events.

    Qualifications:
    Education

    • Four years of experience in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience in social service delivery, financial education, and/or counseling/coaching.

    Required

    • Must pass CBI/background check.
    • Complete all training, exam, and certification requirements.
    • Must have dependable transportation, valid driver’s license, and proof insurance.
    • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends, based on clientele’s needs.
    • Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
    • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products- Word, Excel, and Outlook, data tracking, and scheduling systems.

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Ideally bilingual, speaking and writing English and Spanish.
    • Dynamic, committed individual with strong interpersonal skills and a passion for supporting people with low-/moderate and all-income levels to build greater financial stability.
    • Experience in social work, financial education/planning, asset building, community development, or related fields.
    • Knowledgeable about credit, debt, money management, savings and safe financial products and services.
    • Strong skills in strategic planning, program development, negotiations, and written communications.
    • Strategic thinking, with thoughtful, thorough, and detailed follow through.
    • Systems development and tracking.
    • Comfortable with taking initiative; effective, collaborative worker; able to retain focus while multi-tasking.
    • Attention to detail and production of quality work, along with ability to work quickly and under pressure.
    • Experience with large datasets and data management.
    • Ability to collect local data and stories of impact.
    • Represent United Way of Pueblo County and the Financial Empowerment Center professionally and expertly and promote United Way’s vision and mission in the community.

    Work Environment
    The job is typically performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting while working at a computer and occasional fast-paced operations and events.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to use computers and look at monitors for 8 hours per day.
    • Ability to stoop, kneel, reach, and bend at the waist.
    • Ability to sit or stand for up to 10 hours per day.
    • Ability to use hands and fingers and have good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals and copiers/printers.
    • Ability to hear, see and speak within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.
    • Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required.
