Instructor - Sociology teaches courses in the discipline area of sociology. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Sociology provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Sociology typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $66.259. See Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range for this position. For current appointees, normal compensation will be based on the annual salary of the Unit 18 faculty NSF in effect as of June 30 of the calendar year in which summer session begins. Salary is prorated in accordance instructional workload calculation.

    Position description

    The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts seeks a lecturer(s) to teach courses in Sociology for Summer 2024 Sessions. Courses being offered may include but not limited to:

    Self and Society
    Introduction to Crime and Deviance
    Advanced Topics in Criminology
    Law and Society

    In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers.

    This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement.     Advanced degree and experience teaching at the college or university level are required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching.
