    Yakima Valley College seeks an innovative Psychology Instructor, who is active and accomplished in his or her discipline, has a record of successful teaching or related experience, is committed to students and their success, and works actively to close the equity gaps for underrepresented students. Candidates should have at least three years of clinical experience that includes collaborative integration of mental health and physical health and will demonstrate the strong promise of becoming a contributing member of the Arts and Sciences Division.

    YVC offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and encourages eLearning, cooperative learning and use of technology in the classroom. All faculty are engaged in the assessment of college goals and purposes.

    This is a full-time, non-tenure track (special faculty) position that reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences. The anticipated start date is September 2025.

    JOB PROFILE:
    The primary responsibility of the instructor shall be to teach foundational Psychology classes as needed by the district. Other aspects of the position include:
    • Demonstration of student-centered values consistent with the student-focused teaching
    • Availability for student consultation outside of class
    • Development of departmental curriculum  
    • Participation in campus-wide committees
    • Participation in college-wide registration and advising
    • Commitment to systematic classroom, department, and college assessment and improvement
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Earned master's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology.
    • Successful completion of significant foundational coursework in psychology.
    • Clinical experience that includes integration of mental and physical health.
    • Successful demonstrated teaching experience.
    • Experience or interest in teaching populations diverse in age, culture, and ethnicity.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.
    • Experience leading efforts to increase student success in Psychology, including closing equity gaps between demographic groups.
    • Experience or interest in using a variety of classroom methodologies and modalities (e.g. assessment, collaborative learning, interactive teaching, e-learning, learning communities).
    • Demonstrated ability to adopt teaching methods/styles that support successful leaning appropriate to the student population at Yakima Valley College.
    • Experience and/or evidence of willingness to work as part of the college community (e.g., committees, college activities).
    • Experience or interest in curriculum development and assessment.

    • Research methods
    • Learning theory
    • Sensation and perception
