Job Description: Instrument Technician

LumaCyte, LLC is a biotechnology instrumentation designer and manufacturer located in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our mission is to provide researchers with transformational diagnostic tools that accelerate medical and pharmaceutical discoveries through novel single cell analysis and sorting. We provide hardware and software solutions that enable cell biologists, biomedical researchers, pharmaceutical, and other biotechnology companies to characterize, select, and sort cell samples.

LumaCyte, LLC seeks an Instrument Technician to assist in the production and maintenance of LumaCyte’s flagship product, Radiance. As an Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for the production of a cell analysis instrument which will require working knowledge of electromechanical, pneumatic, and optical systems. As your understanding of the product grows, your responsibilities will expand to supporting field operations and remote support. Our ideal candidate is looking for opportunities to expand their skillset and grow within their team through constant learning and a persistent mindset.

Responsibilities:

• Assemble, maintain, and install scientific instrumentation
• Act as a liaison to machine shops, fabrication services, and OEMs to procure and maintain inventory
• Develop a working knowledge of LumaCyte’s instrumentation in order to support customers and team members on site and in field (25% or less travel)
• Assist the R&D team in development of new products and technologies

Skills and Qualifications:

• Associates in a STEM program or 2 years experience in a workshop/laboratory environment
• Demonstrated ability to problem solve electrical and mechanical issues
• Working knowledge of Microsoft suite
• Proven self-starter, good interpersonal and time management skills, and ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Exposure to basic operational safety training in a workshop environment
• Adherence to SDS protocols regarding proper handling of chemicals
• Adherence to safety protocols regarding proper handling of biological samples
• Strictly obey company PPE guidelines regarding laser safety, shop tool use, chemical handling, and biologics handling

Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of cad software (SolidWorks)
• Experience with manual or CNC shop tools
• Experience with microcontrollers or C experience (Arduino IDE)
• Experience with small electronics repair or SMD rework
• Experience maintaining 3D printers

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
