    JOB SUMMARY
    :
    The Continuous Improvement Manager is responsible for using Lean Manufacturing methodology to drive operational process improvements across the organization as a whole. This individual will provide mentoring, coaching, and training as needed at the facilities to support and promote the use of CI methodology and tools (Visual Management, Root Cause Analysis, etc.) and contribute to a CI Culture within the organization. This role will oversee the Manufacturing Engineering processes and Teams at SAFE Boats.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Lead, Develops and implements improvement plans for areas in collaboration with area Leaders
    • Lead, coach, and mentor team members & projects related to process transformations using Lean, project management, and change management. These projects could involve complex business problems that extend across the business enterprise and should result in improvements to Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery & Morale (SQCDM)
    • Facilitates and coordinates annual planning and budgeting process for the organization as a whole
    • Creates and defines current and future state Value Stream Maps
    • Co-Develops the SAFE Boats Business System (SBBS)
    • Leads, mentors and coaches Manufacturing Engineer(s) and initiatives to support efforts to improve efficiencies in the organization.
    • Supports ISO9001 efforts and activities
    • Support selection, implementation and sustainment of Enterprise Requirements Planning (ERP) system.
    • Teach, by theory and by example, the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach
    • Partners with various departments in identifying projects that are aligned with the priorities of the business (including process flow, process mapping, TPM, etc)
    • Requests and implements engineering changes to products through the Engineering Change Process
    • Researches, suggests and implements Lean manufacturing tools for CI throughout the organization
    • Leads, and monitors and reports out on Lean Program and Kaizen Event workshops and events
    • Drives capital improvements through equipment investigation, recommendation, requests for funding, commissioning and installation, proof of concept prior to installation/implementation. Tracks ROI of investments.
    • Supports the introduction of design changes and new products in production
    • Participates in product review, design and implementation of fixtures and equipment to improve process flow, makes recommendations and supports decisions related to production layout
    • Actively participates in all Manufacturing Planning activities
    • Create and maintain visual displays and storyboards within the company to propagate the C.I. message and inform every one of the ongoing activities.
    • In collaboration with the Training Leader, recommends and helps develop training for machines, Lean concepts and initiatives, and production processes.
    • Asks questions and provides insight to others as a Subject Matter Expert to help drive culture change within the company to become a data driven, process-oriented organization
    • Interacts with a variety of Team Members with a variety of levels of experience with CI, able to interact and support them based on their knowledge base and desired outcomes
    • Involved and engaged with all phases of Lean Manufacturing projects from identification to selection to implementation to execution to sustainment.
    • In collaboration with Department leaders, Identifies and develops visual management tools and coaches their use throughout the organization
    • Schedules, organizes, and facilitates CI events and efforts at SAFE Boats
    • Prepares reports, metrics, & data related to CI events at SAFE Boats
    • Anticipates and pro-actively solves problems related to more complex processes or technologies, leads problem solving efforts to improve quality and eliminate waste
    • Actively involved and engaged and may lead RCA (Root Cause Analysis) activities with other participants from Production Team Members to the CEO
    • Provides encouragement and guidance to leaders as they implement and sustain CI efforts/initiatives
    • Instills a culture of accountability as related to CI efforts and initiatives. Champions and celebrates positive outcomes and successes within the organization.
    • Monitors progress and ensures completion of daily, weekly, and monthly tasks- as well as achieving assigned annual plan goals for the CI Department.
    • Maintains a current understanding of existing and emerging trends related to the CI industry.
    Skills:
    • Technical Knowledge– Advanced background in CI/Lean methodology (3-5 years experience)
    • Process - Understanding of process mapping, tools, lean initiative implementation and sustainability.
    • Change Agent- Experience championing and a passion for new techniques and processes
    • Analytical Aptitude- ability to collect and analyze data and think analytically
    • Persuasiveness- Ability to influence, encourage, and educate others and drive change
    • Methods - Understanding of Continuous Improvement principles and methodology
    • Business Acumen- Ability to understand how changes drive business results
    • Time Management – Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others. Understand cross functional relationship of timing and influence on schedule
    • Problem solving - Ability to identify problems, conduct research, consult subject matter experts, and present timely cost-effective solutions
    • Communication - Excellent internal and external customer-facing communication skills. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Ability to share information effectively with a variety of Team Members.
    • Organizational skills - Strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
    • IT - Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Understanding of Project Management software and database tools, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint is desirable.
    Experience/Education:
    • BS Degree in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, mechanical engineering, business or related field strongly preferred. Substitute for relevant experience may be considered.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in manufacturing
    • Experience managing a production, quality, engineering, or CI department for a minimum of two years.
    • Experienced C.I. Practitioner who must have successfully used C.I. tools and methods in a manufacturing environment.
    • Must have experience successfully leading and facilitating improvement.
    • Must understand statistical tools and methods and be able to coach others in structured rigorous use of data
    • Culture change: Must have experience in how to successfully manage people through change. Must understand typical resistance to change and how to overcome it.
    • Experience in the Marine Industry preferred, interest in the marine industry required.
