About The Role
As the Marketing and Communications Manager, you will play a vital role in enhancing brand awareness and overseeing all aspects of strategic marketing and communications. You'll work across various platforms, including our website, social media accounts, email communications, and both print and digital materials, to promote our organization and its sponsored creators to a diverse audience that includes artists, industry experts, donors, and the general public. Your focus will be on audience growth, increasing awareness, and generating revenue. Collaborating with a small, dedicated team responsible for our programs and operations, you will serve as the primary point of contact for external communications, including inquiries, events, promotional partnerships, and public relations. This position reports to the Executive Director and is fully remote, with occasional travel to our headquarters in Durham, North Carolina.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement marketing and communications strategies that uphold our brand identity across all programs, events, and outreach initiatives.
Create engaging content and assets for various audiences through newsletters, blogs, graphics, and social media.
Manage the organization's website, ensuring easy navigation, clarity of information, and up-to-date content.
Write, edit, and produce marketing and communications materials, such as press releases, blog posts, and social media updates.
Assist with donor communications and prepare language for grants and reports.
Design and execute social media campaigns across multiple channels.
Create a dynamic social media content calendar and engagement strategy.
Track the effectiveness of marketing efforts and analyze performance metrics.
Maintain a digital media archive, including photos and videos.
Produce and manage email campaigns, overseeing the review, testing, and distribution processes.
Collect and share monthly newsletters with our email lists and supported documentary makers.
Organize events, manage outreach and marketing efforts, create social sharing toolkits, and handle day-of communications.
Collect program data, analyze feedback, and share insights with the team.
Monitor attendance and demographics for all events and programs.
Create and manage registration for our events and programs.
Analyze collected data to evaluate success and inform future strategies.
Identify and develop databases for media outlets, organizations, festivals, schools, and documentary collectives aligned with our mission.
Stay informed and engaged with the industry, partner organizations, and sponsored creators.
Update project and resource pages for our sponsored creators.
Develop and implement policies to enhance communication efficiency and support our brand's growth.
Establish and maintain internal communication protocols and initiatives.
Provide marketing and communications support for special projects and initiatives.
Assist with grant research and applications as needed.
Qualifications
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in an arts/film and/or nonprofit environment.
A bachelor's degree is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong project management, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities; self-directed with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Proficiency in visual design; experience with design software is a plus.
Experienced in using social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube.
Strong networking and relationship management skills.
Proficient with technology, including cloud-based applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite/Docs and Spreadsheets; experience with communications software like Mailchimp, Zoom, Asana, and Slack is desired.
A highly motivated self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively with a team.
Salary
$60,000 - $65,000 per year
