Assistant Director, Media Relations.

Reporting to the director of media relations, the assistant director of media relations is responsible for proactively identifying and writing strategic news and feature stories for Notre Dame news channels (News.nd.edu, ND.edu) and creating media pitches and press advisories for national, regional, international, local and campus media outlets which highlight the University's research, scholarship, creativity, Catholicism and service to society and the local community.
This position will work with faculty, administrators, staff and students to promote the work of the Keough School of Global Affairs, Notre Dame International, the social sciences within the College of Arts and Letters and general University news and events. This position consults with campus communications professionals on news and media relations issues, and is responsible for coordinating news coverage. The assistant director will also create strategic communications plans to pitch and place stories that communicate the University's excellence, and will serve on the University's crisis communications team. This position will require limited amounts of travel, potentially internationally, along with occasional evening and weekend work.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or associated fields
5 to 6 years experience
- Excellent writer and storyteller with experience working in media relations/public relations/communications department and a proven track record of proactive story placement.
- Must possess strong editorial judgment, persuasive communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain solid relationships with faculty, journalists and University colleagues.
- Must be able to manage and complete multiple assignments at one time and proactively seek good stories.
- Must be proficient in social media with basic Web skills. Familiarity with Notre Dame and/or experience in a higher education setting is a plus.
