Job Overview:
This position is part of the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia – Tifton Campus (Bugwood). The Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health develops, maintains and hosts a large number of digital tools and resources including web, smartphone, and database applications. The IT Systems Support Professional will have a working knowledge of Amazon Web Services as the platform for Center applications. Applications hosted by the Center use different server side technologies including Windows Server, Linux, ColdFusion, PHP, IIS, Apache, and NodeJS. While this is a diverse set of tools, this professional should be either familiar with their configuration or able to quickly learn how to setup, secure, monitor, recover, and troubleshoot system issues and bottleknecks. This position will also work with application programmers to ensure they are aware of and able to follow best practices for continuous deployment of applications and efficient use of system resources.
Responsibilities:
Support infrastructure for applications providing mission critical services to external users
- Update software and digital infrastructure to maximize system performance, security, and availability while minimizing costs
- Work with developers as they build digital applications to advise on workable solutions given capacity, benefits, limitations and costs
- Analyze logs and setup alerts to monitor utilization of infrastructure capacity, identify potential performance bottlenecks and prevent development of issues that may lead to incidents of application downtime or degraded application performance
- Work with developers to monitor and maintain workflows for continuous integration and continuous deployment of improvement to applications
Planning and Documentation
- Keep informed on changes and new services that can reduce costs and/or increase security, capacity or functionality
- Develop plans for improving infrastructure while minimizing downtime of applications
Incident Response
- Take action to resolve the immediate incident where mission critical applications experience performance or availability issues
- Perform root cause analysis to determine the cause of the incident
- Work with developers and center leadership to find workable solutions to prevent future incidents
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with sufficient experience to show competence and innovation in server and system administration.
- Work experience implementing and supporting applications and databases on Amazon Web Services.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42,821.00 - $62,821.00 per year
