PURPOSE: Provides supervision of Job Squad, Inc. employees for designated custodial contracts that are State, Federal and/or commercial. Oversees compliance with contract requirements, conducts scheduling, completes progress notes/performance reviews, and disciplinary actions under the supervision of the Facilities Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Physical dexterity and ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to train staff how to sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, strip floors, shampoo carpets, clean bathrooms, etc., and ability to inspect the crew's work. Ability to train and teach staff appropriate work skills/behaviors and interpersonal skills. Must have basic math skills and be able to follow both written and verbal instructions and must have both written and verbal communication skills. Must have the communication and emotional skills to interact constantly, and prompt, motivate Must demonstrate tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to the needs of people with disabilities. Must be able to make quick decisions, use good judgment and perform crisis intervention.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent. One-year experience performing janitorial services and one-year supervisory experience required. Must be capable of using a mobile phone and also personal computer. Must have a dependable means of transportation and a valid West Virginia driver’s license, with excellent driving history. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred.
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY SKILLS: Provides first line supervision to as many as twenty janitors; interprets and initiates standardized procedures, such as cleaning practices, employee evaluations, schedules and performance plans. Gives frequent instructions and handles problems and emergencies. Calls a manager or director when uncertain as to course of action.
GOODWILL/HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS: The supervisor must be sensitive to the needs people who have disabilities. Must have the ability to prompt and motivate others to do their jobs. Must demonstrate tact and diplomacy and the ability to encourage people toward a specific goal. This person has much customer and public contact and must understand people, disabled and non-disabled.
LEVEL OF INITIATIVE AND CREATIVITY: Must adjust to the needs of individuals with a wide range of disabilities when communicating on a day-to-day basis and during training. Must often take the initiative and handle problems with employees or with the customer.
TYPE OF SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Follows standard practices and procedures, specific work instructions, and receive periodic inspections.
BUDGETING/FUNDS RESPONSIBILITY: No direct budgetary control.
IMPACT OF JOB ON END RESULTS: Has definite impact on customer satisfaction and employee satisfaction, and therefore, the success of the agency’s mission.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
1. Supervises janitors performing cleaning tasks according to the requirements of the scope of work.
2. Schedules staff and calls in substitute staff when necessary.
3. Prompts and motivates others to carry out the essential functions of their jobs.
4. Trains and teaches staff appropriate work skills/behaviors and interpersonal skills.
5. Assists with inventory of supplies and equipment.
6. Provides on-the-job training whenever possible.
7. Promotes safety and provides safety tips and/or safety training whenever possible.
8. Writes progress notes on each employee with a disability.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
10. Performs janitorial duties when no other employees are available to complete these tasks.
11. Attends training as required.
12. Other duties as assigned.
