The Oklahoma Educational Television Authority (OETA) announces the opening of the full-time position titled
Journalist/Producer for its weekly news and public affairs program, “The Oklahoma News Report” in
Oklahoma City. The most qualified candidates will be contacted for an interview.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or comparable experience.
Must have the ability to make difficult decisions under pressure and remain open to adjustments, including
last-minute changes.
Excellent editorial judgment and writing skills.
Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize, take initiative and communicate
effectively to accomplish team goals.
Must be able to collaborate creatively with photojournalists, graphic artists, producers, and new
management to produce effective content.
Must be a positive representative of OETA.
The person in this position will interact with state dignitaries on a regular basis and must develop
relationships with them.
Interest in and knowledge of Oklahoma State government and issues of statewide significance is
important as is a demonstrated desire for continuing professional development.
Must be willing to adhere to the OETA Public Media Code of Integrity.
Ability to lift up to 30lbs and have a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
Ability to pass a background check.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
This is a hybrid position that requires best journalistic practices as well as best practices for maximizing digital
impact through social media and the OETA website.
The successful candidate will work with the entire Oklahoma News Report team to share news content daily on
a variety of digital platforms. In addition, this position will produce, edit, and anchor a weekly 15-minute
“InDepth” panel discussion segment that airs on “The Oklahoma News Report”. This includes helping to
identify topics of interest, scheduling guests, editing of the segment to trim interviews and add cover “b-roll”
material when and where appropriate. This position will also be trained in newscast production to assist the
executive producer.
Familiarity with shooting for news, ENPS, and AVID editing systems is a plus.
COMPENSATION
Salary up to $38,000 - $42,000 depending on experience. A generous benefit package including health, leave,
retirement, plus much more.
