Direct the Entomology 3D printing lab for extension and outreach: develop and produce 3D printed extension and outreach materials; translate biological specimens to suitable 3D replicated models, ensuring they are representative of real-world insects and plant damage; troubleshoot, order parts, and maintain the 3D printers; maintains design records sufficient to facilitate publication of results and dissemination of extension/outreach materials; develop and lead a workshop on 3D printing; distribute 3D printed products to stakeholders as needed.
Lead the Insect Pest Diagnostic Clinic: coordinate submissions and identify arthropod samples received through the Ohio State Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic; communicate with clients about sample submission and provide remedies; answer phone calls and reply to emails for client inquiries about arthropod identification; receive samples and maintain client records in digital formats; update the OSU Plant and Pest Diagnostic Clinic website with sample details and new pertinent information; apply for USDA/APHIS permits when required and renew them yearly if necessary.
Lead arthropod identification to support forest entomology research: receive samples and maintain records in digital formats; use dichotomous keys and be familiar with taxonomical terms and literature to identify and report native and nonnative arthropods to species; specialist in Coleoptera identification; prepare specimens for voucher deposition by pinning/pointing specimens and creating appropriate information labels; use dissecting microscopes; assist with multiple research projects and extension program activities related to forest insect ecology; supervise and/or assist students, summer assistants, and visiting scholars in the laboratory and field; provide reports on project status and results; assist with the development of extension materials.
Required Qualifications:
Good communication skills; planning, organizing, coordinating, data management, and project execution skills; technical expertise with 3D printers and 3D printing software; Valid driver’s license, master’s degree preferably in entomology; insect identification capabilities, and experience in insect taxonomy, especially Coleoptera.
Years of relevant experience required:
1-3; experience with agricultural and forest field research; experience with data collection and management; experience with arthropod taxonomy/identification; technical expertise in 3D printing.
