    JOB SUMMARY:

    Serves as liaison between Court, Juvenile and families involved in the juvenile justice system.  Participates in the supervision of juveniles on conditions of release and on deferred prosecution.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

    Responsibilities

    • Investigates juvenile’s background through contact with the juvenile, family, school and other agencies involved with the child to prepare juvenile cases for court actions; make recommendations to the court.
    • Maintains correspondence, written and verbal, with District Attorney, juvenile’s family, juvenile’s attorney, victims and collateral agencies.
    • Prepares detention hearing reports, DA information requests, and status hearing reports based on knowledge of the juvenile and gathered information; testifies and makes recommendations to the Court.
    • Maintains case files and communicates with schools in reference to the juvenile and request current and relevant documentation on the youth.
    • Conducts monthly random drug testing on juveniles.
    • Supervises juveniles on court rules and conditions of release prior to formal court action, in addition to supervising juveniles on deferred prosecution and in detention.
    • Assist detention personnel in approving probable cause statements and helps complete the intake process of juveniles admitted into detention.
    • Completes Massachusetts Youth Screening (MAYSI-2) and Positive Achievement Change Tool (PACT) on all referred youth.
    • Attends training conferences as required for maintenance of Juvenile Probation Officer Certification.
    • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or other state approved related field.
    • 1-year job related experience.
    • Good computer and organizational skills; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
    • Minimum 21 years of age.
    • Eligible to be Certified Juvenile Probation Officer. 
    • Requires being on call on a rotating basis.

     

    SALARY RANGE: $26.00 - $37.09 hourly based on qualifications

    This position is eligible for additional compensation based upon state supplement and certification pay. 

    CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position

     

    For certain positions requiring certification, state standards shall disqualify an applicant if their criminal history reveals:

    1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole

    2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole

    3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
