ABOUT US:
Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our three laboratories located within St. Joseph’s Health, Crouse Hospital, and at the Laboratory Alliance Operations Center in Syracuse, New York.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the RRL Manager, the Coordinator of Central Receiving Area (CRA) will have an advanced level of knowledge and skills in clinical laboratory specimen processing to accurately receive and process clinical laboratory specimens, resolve discrepancies, and train new employees in the Central Receiving Department. Must have availability for rotating weekends and holidays, and must be an advanced leader with a very low or no error rate, as well as advanced understanding and practice in the following CRA responsibilities:

EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent, required. Associate’s Degree or higher in a science discipline, desirable. At least 4 or more years of clinical laboratory experience in Central Receiving.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
The work environment is primarily a laboratory setting with high exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee is regularly both stationary and required to move about. Frequently have ability to perform duties associated with the use of a computer and laboratory instrument; must have ability to grasp small objects and tasks associated with eye-hand coordination; ability to distinguish details of an object that is less than a few feet away. Determine and detect difference between size, color, numbers, shades, and brightness, as well as differentiate sounds. Must have the ability to frequently lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds.
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent knowledge of both manual and automated specimen processing procedures, possess a high level of specimen requirements, as well as a proven low error rate. Interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload, stressful situations, and high attention to detail are required. Strong computer skills required for patient registration and order entry.
