Typically reports to a director. The Laboratory Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Laboratory Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. ROLE SUMMARY: At Anheuser-Busch, we ensure only the highest quality ingredients become part of our products. We are seeking a Lab Tech to join our Global Barley Research team, which is an integral part of developing that high quality barley. The successful candidate will be in part responsible for analyzing and developing barley breeds to improve yield, malting & brewing quality, and disease resistance of barley varieties for a vertically integrated Anheuser-Busch supply chain. Additionally, you can expect to: JOB RESPONSIBILTIES: Malting and analyzing breeding trials from worldwide breeding programs and industry evaluation trials. Monitor data for outliers and trends, facilitate root cause analysis. Process data and uploading into LIMS application. Monitor equipment for in process problems and troubleshoot and maintain laboratory processes and equipment Prepare laboratory reagents and materials for analysis needs utilizing SOPs and standardized recipes. Review, update and create SOPs and other management documents as needed. Maintain sample and data integrity. Supervise and train temporary employees. Forklift use to manage warehouse inventories. Maintain workspace through ordering inventory/supplies and through daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning protocols. Drive improvement in processes through innovation and bringing forward creative solutions. Understanding of basic statistics to facilitate in data analysis and innovation. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: B.S. in science related degree such as chemistry, microbiology, biology, food science. Experience: 1 year experience in a chemistry related laboratory preferred. Strong data entry skills, experience with Excel and PowerPoint required. SAP, Outlook and R experience a plus. Experience with laboratory scales and pipetting required Organizational and Time Management Skills Ability to lift 50 pounds Holds an active driver’s license GC/MS experience preferred WORKING CONDITIONS: Laboratory Space, Warehouse and Field Hearing and Eye protection required in designated areas Chemical Hazards requires additional PPE Not all work areas have air conditioning.
