Purpose of the position
Brookside Labs is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented laboratory technician to join our dynamic team. Laboratory Technicians work in a fast paced environment performing various laboratory activities, including but not limited to sample receipt and preparation, measuring/extraction of samples, and data analysis. Laboratory Technicians may be responsible for working with instrumentation and robotics necessary to analyze their samples, and will be responsible for working both independently and as members of a cohesive team.
Key responsibilities & duties
1. Carry out sample preparation, handling, and analysis following established protocols.
2. Set up and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for testing.
3. Perform and conduct routine laboratory procedures by using laboratory SOPs under the supervision of management staff.
4. Document results of tests and analyses accurately and efficiently.
5. Practice safe laboratory practices and maintain a clean work environment.
6. May prepare and work with chemicals throughout the day and safely utilizes required PPE.
7. Adhere to other safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
8. Completing assisgnments given by management team accurately and efficiently.
9. Acquire and maintain a reasonable understanding of workplace policies and procedures located in the Employee Handbook as well as Safety Plan.
10. Will be responsible for performing calibrations, maintenance and some troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
11. Accurately monitors and records Quality Control samples, to ensure accuracy in all testing results.

Academic & trades qualifications
A two or four-year degree is preferred. A High School diploma is required
Work experience & skills
Laboratory experience is preferred. Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manauals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must have the capacity to perform successfully under pressure at times and prioritize tasks effectiviely, in a fast-paced environment.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Microsoft Office, including Excel. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk, or hear. The employee must frequently reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
