Position Description

The Michigan High-speed Internet Office (MIHI) is on the lookout for passionate Regional Digital Coordinators (RDC) to join its statewide Digital Navigator Network in partnership with the American Connection Corps. As an RDC, you’ll be at the forefront of supporting your community through hands-on digital skills programming. This role provides direct digital skills support, assists to build digital skills training and education materials, and works with statewide partners to improve digital skills, broadband, and connectivity access through the Michigan High-speed Internet Office (MIHI).

The role will work directly with participants identified to have digital literacy challenges to assess their needs and ensure they are empowered and prepared for their telehealth experience. The Regional Digital Coordinator will collaborate on the creation and dissemination of culturally and linguistically appropriate digital and literacy education and training materials.

The Regional Digital Coordinator will be plugged into state, federal, philanthropic, and nonprofit resources to assist participants with broadband and connectivity, digital skills, and other socioeconomic needs to be able to assist participants to access these services. Finally, they will play a role in ensuring that digital literacy processes are culturally and linguistically appropriate, with an eye toward digital equity.

Where we live increasingly determines which people, places, and possibilities we can access, leading to a rise in cultural divides, social and economic inequities, and community insularity. The American Connection Corps (ACC) is an AmeriCorps program that leverages the power of national service to expand people’s economic opportunities, bridge their social networks, and open them up to different perspectives.

How do we do this? We recruit and place members in digitally disconnected communities, where they connect both themselves and people in their community to:

• people. ACC brings together people who might not otherwise meet, whether they live in a different neighborhood in the same community or in a different region of the country.
• places. We support ACC members in building skills and forming deep and lasting connections with the communities they serve, so that they become passionate and effective ambassadors for those communities both during and after their service.
• possibilities. ACC members work shoulder-to-shoulder with local partners on a range of projects that connect people to new opportunities such as telehealth, e-learning, and agricultural technology.

Ultimately, we aim to nurture a national network of leaders with the empathy and diversity of lived experiences to bridge the divides and inequities in our nation.

The service year will begin in early September 9th, 2024.

Eligibility:

• Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
• Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps and/or VISTA terms.

Every full-time ACC Member receives:

• A $33,000 stipend.
• A $7,395 Education Award through AmeriCorps, which can be applied to any education-related expenses after the program concludes (including repayment of qualifying student loans).
