Our client, a well- known commodity trading firm, is seeking their Director of Sales and Trading. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the company's commodities trading operations. This role involves strategic planning, market analysis, and execution of trading strategies to maximize profitability and market share. He/she will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commodity trading, particularly in the grain sector or similar, and possess a deep understanding of global markets, supply chain logistics, and risk management.
Specific Duties:
Identify market trends and competition with growth opportunities in mind.
Work with executive team to define pricing strategies, contract terms, and risk management.
Develop and implement a sales structure to support the company’s goals.
Oversee Product sales, procurement & trading activities, ensuring efficient execution and risk mitigation. Oversee Risk factors (valid contracts, cost and cash flow controls, facilitation of security reviews)
Approve trades beyond stipulated limits.
Review methods used in valuation.
Support other teams to manage trade risks.
Assess supply and demand factors that affect trades and valuations.
Develop measures to ensure corporate regulations are followed.
Execute trades based on trading portfolio objectives.
Develop plans to address portfolio gaps identified in commodity classes.
Develop strategies to protect organization’s positions.
Develop targeted trade partnering strategies.
Develop an understanding of the landscape within the market including product knowledge, industry challenges, legislative and geopolitical changes.
Implement risk management protocols to protect the company’s interests.
Cultivate and nurture relationships with brokers, clients, and suppliers.
Identify and develop new trading opportunities and supply sources.
Identify new business prospects and negotiate contracts.
Understand and apply trade policies and applicable trade rules
Communicate frequently with customers regarding pricing changes and closing values
Collaborate with sales teams to expand market share and explore new markets and new products.
Develop and define a compensation/bonus structure for the Sales team to incentivize profitability and growth while staying within risk limits.
Qualification Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree is required in Finance Business, Economics, Agriculture or related field. An advanced degree is a plus, but not a must
9 plus years of relevant experience in trading with a strong background in the agricultural industry.
Leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to build and manage high-performing teams.
Strong analytical and problem-solving expertise.
Strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure and with competing tasks. Must be proactive. Self-starting person with a strong sense of ownership with the ability to communicate and negotiate. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. 3-5 Direct Reports
Location: Greenwich, CT
· 5 days in office required.
· Business travel required 15-35%, including occasional weekends or multiple consecutive nights away from home.
· He / she should be accessible outside business hours when urgent matters arise.

Compensation: 190k-225k plus a substantial Bonus and all Benefits.
