Job Summary:We are hiring an organized, energetic leader to serve as outdoor Operations Coordinator at our Washington, D.C. location. Operations Coordinators act as the Health Supervisor and maintain all the material resources for camp, keeping the adventure running safely and smoothly for all ‘demigod’ campers and staff that come to Plato Learning for intense physical play, epic adventures, and unforgettable other-worldly experiences.
Job Responsibilities
Act as Health Supervisor.
- Keep the health area clean and well-stocked for any camper injuries.
- Swiftly administer first aid to any of our 70 campers and 10 staff members as needed so they can return to adventuring after a mishap, with a child-friendly and personable demeanor and verbal style.
- Have or be willing to obtain appropriate First Aid certifications.
Implement Safety Policies.
- Prepare for any scenario, whether it be inclement weather or a camp-wide emergency alert.
- Run safety drills on a weekly basis to ensure staff and campers are prepared when unexpected or extreme circumstances occur.
- Remain cool, calm, collected in an emergency.
Build Partnerships.
- Working with outside vendors that make camp run like a well-oiled adventure, including park officials, bus transportation, indoor locations, or daily parkgoers.
- Make sure communications run smoothly and that we treat the spaces we share with the utmost care.
- Task Counselors and CITs with setup/takedown tasks.
Track Camp Resources and Materials.
- Responsible for ordering materials and maintaining camp materials inventory.
- Consolidate materials needed for every part of camp and replenish supplies weekly.
Maintain Storage.
- Orchestrates campsite set-up and break-down in public parks, ensuring everything is in its assigned place.
- Maintain a camp van and materials storage pod and implement an organizational system so that materials may be accessed at a moment’s notice.
- Whether camp storage exists in a pod, a storage unit, or a van– obtain any object at a moment’s notice, or easily direct a staff member to retrieve it.
Resource for Parents.
- Handle camper material distribution for late registered campers, as well as additional purchases or replacements for lost/broken materials (camp t-shirts and foam swords).
- Familiarize yourself with merchandise lineup and policies to fulfill camper and parent needs.
- Know policies inside and out to best answer parent questions and answer customer service inquiries that are sent your way.

- Our Camp is an energetic all-outdoor environment that requires staff and campers to embrace exciting challenges.
- We are looking for courageous individuals excited by the discomfort of adventure, and who do not shy away from responsibility and physical exertion, even during the heat of summer or a rainfall.
- A Washington D.C. Operations Coordinator will spend most of their day on their feet and walk anywhere from 15,000-18,000 steps/day on the job, across changes in elevation and varying terrain.
Rise to the Challenge.
- Prove efficacy through action, and prepare to handle challenging situations with kindness and readiness to help.
- Whether that is constructing a last-minute prop for a performer or helping run a camp-wide event, the Leadership Team cares for the campers and their team through service-leadership.
- All Camp Half Blood Leadership team members are ready and willing to cover a camper group when necessary.
The Hours:
- Approx 60 hours of remote training from April-June. Includes in-person training days prior to program start
- 40-45 hours/week in-person at your camp location for 7 weeks, June through August.
- Camp Schedule: 7:30am-4:30pm; Monday-Friday (Campers present 8:45-4:10)
What skills are we looking for?
- Experience working with children ages 7-11 at camp, in schools, after school programs/structured capacities
- Leadership Experience – previous Operations experience a plus
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and procedural skills, while maintaining flexibility and agility
- Calm under pressure
- Combines strong initiative, conflict resolution, and communication abilities with a team-player attitude
- Ability to maintain stamina and endurance over the course of the Camp Season
- Full-time availability in Summer
- Excitement about working in an outdoor fast-paced environment in the summer
- In a team, able to lift 25-50 lbs of camp materials without injury
- Valid license and comfortability driving a 9-foot sprinter van.
- Camp experience is a bonus, though not required

Benefits and Compensation:
Compensation. $19/hour for in-season work
- Pre-Season Work/Training (April-May): $17/hour
- During Camp and Staff Training Weeks: 40-45 hours/week for your program’s 6 weeks
- Any absences or sick days are unpaid
- Referral Bonus: $50 bonus for any referred applicants who are hired and work at least 4 in-season weeks.
