    Work Based Learning Coordinator

    District Wide

     

    Job Summary

    The position of Work Based Learning (WBL) Program Specialist will direct and develop the Work Based Learning program at Aztec Municipal School District. The WBL Specialist will work to ensure that each internship student is matched with a mentor in a professional internship setting related to his or her interests. The person selected for this position will also work collaboratively with staff and administration, the district's Director of Career and Technical Education, and community-based mentors to support internship-based project work as defined in student learning plans.

     

    Reports to:     Director of Career & Technical Education & Post-Secondary Workforce Readiness (PWR) Specialist

     

    Compensation Info: 

    $75,000 with benefits, 11 month school year contract, 3 to 5 year grant funded position

     

     Qualifications

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
    2. Candidate must compete a satisfactory finger-print background check.
    3. Valid New Mexico Driver's License
    4. Must be eligible and open to obtain one of the following:
      1. NMPED Secondary teaching license, or

    5. Evidence of Leadership Ability
    6. Demonstrate Communication Skills

    Desired Qualifications

    1. Experience in career exploration programming and working with local industry.
    2. Understanding of current high-growth high-wage occupations in the four corners region and economic development
    3. Familiarity and Experience with Data Driven Instructional Practices and Professional Learning Communities.
    4. Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
    5. Experience Mentoring or Supervising High School Students

     

    Essential Functions

    Include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.

     

    • Supervise and implement the Work Based Learning Program at Aztec Municipal School District, fostering an awareness of and excitement for project work integrated into professional internships and collaborating with students, staff, and mentors.
    • Provide leadership, as needed and requested, to further develop and enhance the WBL program for the purpose of recruiting new mentors and career exploration sites, conducting outreach efforts, and evaluating program effectiveness.
    • Network with business and industry, government, labor, nonprofit and service organizations to recruit additional mentors and develop relationships that support WBL instructional program. Provide training and ongoing support to mentors and stakeholders.
    • As requested by administration, develop and facilitate professional development for staff that seeks their input related to the framework for “Learning Through Internship.”
    • Provide insights to internal staff regarding desired employability skills that might be integrated into project work within the advisory program.
    • With colleagues, plan and conduct at least one and possibly multiple annual career fairs specifically for WBL students.
    • Participate in occasional extracurricular school functions such as the annual mentor appreciation dinner, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of CTE or designee.
    • Create instructional career experiences that are both academically and developmentally appropriate for High School students
    • Must be excited to share your experience and knowledge with students and educators in a fun and hand on setting.
    • Communicate accurately and effectively with WBL stakeholders.
    • Maintain a professional rapport with students, parents, teachers, and industry.
    • Obtain feedback from and communicate with students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
    • Utilize a variety of instructional methods and resources.
    • Encourage the development of student involvement, responsibility, and critical thinking skills.
    • Create an atmosphere conducive to learning, self-discipline, and development of realistic and positive self-concepts. Encourage cooperation among students.
    • Keep accurate records in the Student Information System- PowerSchool.
    • Cooperate with administration, parents, and co-workers.
    • Report suspected child abuse and neglect.
    • Help coordinate internship transportation and be responsible for students on field trips and other activities.
    • Act as a good role model within the context of the school.
    • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the supervisor, in accordance with board policy and New Mexico state statues.
    • Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local, state and federal laws
