Legal Services Director oversees the activities of the organization's legal department. Provides legal advice, interpretation, and guidance to senior management and officers regarding contracts, state/federal regulatory requirements, intellectual property or trademark protection, and other business matters. Being a Legal Services Director reviews all information and prepares defense for any legal actions against the organization or advises on prosecuting lawsuits on behalf of the organization. Coordinates and reviews the work of internal or external legal staff. Additionally, Legal Services Director manages staff of attorneys. Requires a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. Requires admittance to a state bar. Typically reports to top management. The Legal Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Legal Services Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Bull City Legal Services is a non-profit law firm dedicated to serving the Durham community. We implement income-based fees to enhance legal justice accessibility for all community members. We are actively seeking an experienced Tenancy Attorney to join our team on a contractual basis.

    The role of contractor offers flexibility with the potential to evolve into a full-time employee position for attorneys who excel in their practice.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide legal representation for clients in traffic-related matters, including but not limited to DUI/DWI, speeding tickets, reckless driving charges, and license suspensions.
    • Offer counsel and guidance to clients on the traffic court process and possible outcomes.
    • Prepare and file all necessary legal documents, such as motions, petitions, and briefs.
    • Negotiate with prosecutors and court officials to achieve favorable outcomes, including reduced fines or dismissal of charges.
    • Advise clients on license reinstatement and points reduction strategies.
    • Maintain a strong attorney-client relationship with clear communication throughout the course of legal proceedings.

    Requirements:

    • Valid North Carolina Bar membership in good standing.
    • At least 1 year of practical experience with a concentration in traffic law.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple cases independently.
    • Strong negotiation skills and courtroom presence.
    • Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on client service.

    This contractual position offers an hourly compensation rate commensurate with experience, starting at $50-$75 per billable hour collected. The role is designated as remote; candidates must have a secure and stable internet connection and are expected to not work on unsecured or publicly accessible Wi-Fi.
