Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. Oversees Library Marketing and Instruction Programming.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Serves Students. Takes a leadership role in the monitoring of trends, expanding, and continually improving the library's information literacy program to include current and emerging technologies. Provides leadership, coordinates, and oversees logistical aspects of delivering curriculum-centered library instruction in various formats. Works collaboratively with the librarians and faculty to develop face-to-face and online learning content, materials, and methods. Creates interactive learning experiences that encompass traditional, online, hybrid, and other forms of instruction. Aids in coordinating the work of full-time librarians in regard to instruction and promoting current and emerging literacies. Works collaboratively to set instructional priorities and develops instruction and assessment strategies. Assesses learning outcomes and information literacy competencies by collaborating with colleagues while taking into consideration the range of student levels.
Oversees the library's programming, events, social networking, and other innovative techniques to engage students, faculty, staff, and community members. Develops and delivers a range of creative and informative student engagement experiences, including coordinating the Libraries' participation in campus-wide student orientation activities, and hosting special events, workshops, and pop-ups. Promotes library activities within the AWC community and collaborates on campus-centered and college-wide cooperative initiatives to deliver timely and effective services and further information literacy integration. Takes a leadership role in the marketing and outreach plan for the library by coordinating library-wide efforts, and promoting events and other activities.
Participates as a member of the library reference team. Analyzes information needs by utilizing reference interviewing techniques. Develops and maintains knowledge of, and skills in, using information resources in all formats to effectively assist library users with their research needs. Provides reference assistance and research support for faculty, staff, and students at all academic levels, in add disciplines, and for community users. Maintains awareness of communication needs and modalities and varying levels of knowledge of learners. Promotes the development of information literacy skills in interactions with library users.
Works with the librarian team to select library materials including electronic resources. Assess and evaluate materials for purchase in designated subject areas by conferring with colleagues, faculty, and students, and consulting professional reviews. Reviews collection and evaluates for preservation and de-selection.
Acts as a liaison to select departments, divisions, and committees across the campus to facilitate communication between those parties and the library. Represents the library and college locally, regionally, and nationally at relevant professional development opportunities.
Provides Circulation department duties as needed.
Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
