LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. The selected candidate will set up and maintain access records for existing, new, and trial electronic resources, including updates to the systems' knowledge bases. This position will be responsible for resolving electronic resources access issues and communicating with patrons, vendors, publishers, and library staff regarding such issues. The Electronic Resources Librarian will also collaborate with staff members responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Libraries' link resolver and will review, negotiate and process contracts and licenses for electronic resources. Works with the library’s Business Office and Contract Administration to facilitate license review. Updates records as necessary. Electronic Resources Setup and Maintenance: Oversees the Libraries’ electronic resources management system (CORAL) and link resolver (SFX). Sets up access to trials and new electronic resources in CORAL and LibGuides and identifies and delegates appropriate projects for SFX. Patron Support: Develops and manages workflows to assure timely processing and uninterrupted access to electronic resources. Responds to and resolves electronic resource questions and issues reported by patrons and library staff. Professional Development and Contributions: Participates in scholarly activities and professional service for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs. Serves on campus and library committees as needed or requested. Actively engages and supports Library and TAMU Initiatives. Collaboration and Education: Engages with faculty and students to facilitate use of library collections and services, and to advocate for their information needs. Shares and explains assessment findings and the Libraries’ current collection strategy to the library, campus, and external groups. Works with the Director of Acquisitions & Collection Strategies, Director of Electronic Resources, and the Libraries’ marketing team to highlight and promote new resources. Works directly with Learning & Engagement and Research & Digital Scholarship librarians to foster communication between research, curriculum support, and how the collections directly impact our faculty and students.
