The Library Archivist collaborates with other college offices in identifying potential donors and materials that support university collection. Establishes policies and procedures for university special collections, archives, digitization, preservation, and conservation. Being a Library Archivist typically reports to a institutional officer. Requires a master's degree. Being a Library Archivist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. LIBRARY BRANCH MANAGER (MIDLAND LIBRARY)

    Hiring range for this position is $66,102.40- $79,060.80. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 24.

    The work schedule for this position is as follows: Generally, Monday-Thursday 8am-5pm with at least one 10am-7pm shift each week, Fridays and Saturdays 9am-6pm on a rotating basis. 
     
    Cabarrus County Public Library is looking for an energetic Branch Manager to supervise the Midland Branch Library in Midland, NC. This position serves patrons of all ages, along with conducting outreach and special programming. As a part of the Charlotte metro region, Cabarrus County is one of the fastest growing counties in NC, and our library system is experiencing a time of exciting growth and opportunities.     Performs difficult professional and responsible administrative work overseeing activities in a branch library. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director. Supervision is exercised over branch library personnel.

     Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
    Supervising a branch library; administering library policies; handling reference questions; directing library programming; maintaining collection; assisting patrons; maintaining records; preparing reports.

    • Responsible for supervising, training, and evaluating staff and has substantial influence in hiring and other employment decisions.
    • Supervises all activities in a branch library including circulation, children and reference services.
    • Prepares monthly work schedules.
    • Tracks and prepares a variety of financial, statistical and other reports on branch activities. 
    • Interprets policies, procedures and standards for library staff.
    • Provides reference and reader's advisory services.
    • Develops and implements library programs for the branch utilizing established guidelines; communicates and coordinates programming with other branches; trains and includes staff as appropriate.
    • Assists library patrons with the use of library computers and related technology and equipment.
    • Provides assistance to patrons using on-line catalog.
    • Resolves unusual or difficult questions.
    • Assigns or conducts library tours as needed.
    • Oversees the material deselecting process for the branch library.
    • Assists in evaluating and maintaining collection; recommends additions, deletions and changes.
    • Handles financial transactions according to County policy.
    • Promotes the library through outreach and participation in community meetings.
    • Assists in planning and executing marketing efforts.
    • Prepares and maintains library records and files.
    • Serves as liaison to the Friends of the Library.
    • Coordinates the activities of volunteers.
    • Troubleshoots minor computer and related peripheral issues.
    • Opens and closes library as assigned.
    • Ensures building and facilities are properly maintained.
    • Attends various board and committee meetings; makes presentations as appropriate.
    • Performs related tasks as required.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of modern library operation; thorough knowledge of reader interest levels; thorough knowledge of library reference, adult services and children's services; thorough knowledge of library system computer applications; thorough knowledge of library reference materials and research techniques; ability to maintain accurate records and statistics and complete accurate reports; ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library patrons and associates; ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing; and to attend work regularly.

     



      

     

    Education and Experience:

    Graduation from an ALA accredited library school with MLS and considerable experience in a public library. 


    Special Requirements: 

    Possession of North Carolina State Library Certificate. May require possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the state of North Carolina.



    Physical Requirements:
    This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
