Programming Library Assistant Job Description
Nature of Responsibility: Must display a positive and helpful attitude and a neat
appearance. The primary duties of the programming library assistant are to provide
service to patrons at the circulation desk, to provide light cleaning and maintenance as
needed and to help plan and implement adult and family programming.
Duties and Responsibilities:
All aspects of circulation including: Register new patrons, check materials in and
out, collect payments, renew materials, renew patron registrations, answer
phone, etc.
Provide general assistance to patrons
Work collaboratively with other staff to plan, organize, implement and promote
adult and family programming. To include: Leading group activities,
finding/booking presenters, setting up the room and equipment, introducing
presenters, creating supply lists, publicity, etc.
Schedules and implements adult programming regardless of timing
Forms partnerships with people in the community, finds volunteers in the
community and through Friends of the Library to help with programming as
needed
Sends programming information to the Social Media Library Assistant for
advertisement.
Creates posters through Canva and shares with the team as necessary
Basic cleaning and light maintenance as needed. Sweep/vacuum floors, take out
recycling bins, dust shelves and furniture, set up and take down tables as
needed, ensure cleanliness of bathrooms, etc.
Clear sidewalks of snow, ice, leaves and debris as needed
Miscellaneous duties as assigned
Abilities, Skills and Knowledge:
Ability to stand, bend, squat, and stretch in order to reach materials at various
heights
Must have the ability to learn and use the circulation system as well as changes
and enhancements
Good communications skills are necessary to interact with library users,
coworkers, and the general public
