Seymour Public Library has an opening for a part-time Library Associate. This is a provisional appointment that will require a successful score on an upcoming Civil Service exam.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide excellent customer service by welcoming and registering patrons, issuing library cards, checking out materials, and managing patron accounts
• Assist patrons with locating materials, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
• Provide technical assistance to library patrons downloading digital content from library holdings
• Check in and process library materials
• Accept and process payments
• Provide information regarding library programs, events, and resources
• Shelve library materials
• Address patron conduct or safety issues
• Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library
• Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends.
• Must possess excellent customer service skills
• Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Education Requirements: Associates degree with major coursework in Liberal Arts, Library Information Systems, or related field; AND at least one (1) year of full-time paraprofessional library experience or two (2) years of increasingly responsible full-time customer public service experience; OR
• Completion of a minimum of one (1) year coursework in Liberal Arts, Library Information Systems, or related field; AND at least two (2) years of full-time paraprofessional library experience or three (3) years of increasingly responsible full-time customer public service experience.

Please note, that the Library Associate position is a competitive civil service position. The incumbent will be required to take the appropriate civil service exam associated with the position and must meet the minimum requirements.

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
