Description
The Adult Literacy Coordinator will be responsible for aspects of the literacy program, primarily grant execution, outreach, program planning, tutor recruitment and training, and learner recruitment.
Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Hours Per Week: 20
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility.
- Works closely with the Assistant Library Director, fellow Literacy Coordinator, Library staff, community partners, and volunteers to plan implement, and promote literacy activities and programs
- Recruit, train, and manage Literacy tutors
- Conduct outreach and represent the Adult Literacy program at community events
- Report directly to the Assistant Library Director
- Seek and build relationships with community partners
- Maintain database records for reporting purposes
- Know and understand the American Library Associations' Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to view Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion of customer records, and follow all legal and policy requirements related to customer privacy and custodianships of records
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Familiarity with adult learning methodologies
- Experience with program planning
- Ability to build, maintain and strengthen community partnerships
- Exhibit sensitivity and respect for all cultures
- Bilingual or multilingual skills desired
- A high degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Forms)
An individual should meet the required education and experience listed
- Two years of library or community services experience
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Bachelor's degree preferred

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lifting of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to 50 pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials with a buddy system.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
