Job Description

POSITION:                Library Media Specialist (part-time)

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. NH Certification in Library Media Specialist #0036
2. Familiarity with services and programs
3. Experience in providing library services at the grade K-6 levels

REPORTS TO:           Principal

JOB GOAL:               To provide a full spectrum of educational materials so each student in the district will find available instructional and enrichment materials appropriate to his/her interests, abilities and level of maturity.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains a functional school library program in the school.
2. Maintains common library procedures that will standardize the operation of libraries throughout the district.
3. Consults on the selection and acquisition of books and materials for the school’s basic collection.
4. Conducts on-going reviews of the collection in the school and attempts to balance it according to the school needs.
5. Keeps current on all types of educational materials in electronic as well as print media, and remains up-to-date on trends and practices regarding their use.
6. Plans and conducts in-service education sessions for teachers.
7. Aids in the care and operation of equipment as well as in the production of audio/visual materials.
8. Works with other library/media specialists in the SAU to recommend to the superintendent specific long-range plans for up-grading library services in the schools.
9. Participates in professional library and educational organizations.
10. Prepares and administers the library budget in conjunction with the building principal.
11. Promotes the use of print, electronic and other non-print resources throughout the school.
12. Organizes the storage and handling of the materials for convenience, availability and effective use.
13. Keeps administrator informed of the needs and services related to the library program.
14. Serves as the resource person in matters concerning educational equipment, instructional materials and library materials and their use in the school instructional programs.
15. Collaborates with teachers providing indices and bibliographies of educational materials and assists them in selecting appropriate materials.
16. Conducts yearly inventory of equipment and materials.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the Jackson Contracted Personnel contract

WORK YEAR:  school year position

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Jackson School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.  The principal and/or administrative designee will be the evaluator.
