Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Library Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     • Develop and implement strategic plans for the library and museum in alignment with the organization's mission and goals.
    • Manage the daily operations of the library and museum, including but not limited to collection development, acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, and exhibitions.
    • Supervise staff members, including hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating performance, and fostering a positive work environment.
    • Collaborate with local schools, community organizations, and government agencies to promote library and museum services, programs, and resources.
    • Oversee the budgetary process, including preparing annual budgets, monitoring expenditures, and seeking additional funding through grants and donations.
    • Remain up to date with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in library and museum management, and implement innovative solutions to enhance services.
    • Organize agenda items and actively participate in Library Board meetings, ensuring the provision of essential information for board review and decision-making.
    • Maintain accurate records and produce reports for stakeholders, board members, and regulatory agencies as required.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant policies, laws, and regulations governing library and museum operations, including copyright laws and privacy regulations.
    • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for patrons and staff, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
    • Serve as a liaison between the library, museum,  and the community, addressing concerns, resolving conflicts, and building relationships.
    • Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
    • 5 to 7 years of experience working as a Librarian in a public library, including progressively responsible supervisory and administrative roles.
    • Certification as a professional librarian or museum professional preferred.
    • Any additional certifications or licenses relevant to library and museum management are advantageous.

    • Strong leadership abilities with experience in supervising and motivating staff members.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
    • Sound financial management skills, including budget preparation, fiscal accountability, and grant writing.
    • Proficiency in library and museum management systems, digital technologies, and online resources.
    • Knowledge of collection development principles, archival practices, and preservation techniques.
    • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans, assess outcomes, and adapt strategies as needed.
    • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Dedication to promoting cultural awareness, heritage preservation, and community engagement through library and museum services.
