Library Services Director supervises, maintains, and enhances policies and procedures for a library. Oversees professional and support staff involved in cataloging, indexing, issuing books/materials, and keeping records of items on loan. Being a Library Services Director selects books and publications for purchase and subscribes to pertinent periodicals as allowed for by the given budget. Requires master's of library and information science from an ALA-accredited school. Additionally, Library Services Director typically reports to top management. The Library Services Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Library Services Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. The purpose of this position is to provide services to meet the social and/or emotional needs that affect the residents' ability to achieve their highest level of function. This position participates in the development of residents’ comprehensive care plans and provides social services to residents in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Responsibilities for the Director of Social Services position:
- Develop and implement social service policies and procedures to meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state and local regulations
- Develop, coordinate and participate in family and resident activities designed to promote social interaction, reality orientation and intellectual stimulation.
- Develop one-to-one professional relationships with residents and families as needed for counseling.
- Counsel residents and families in dealing with feelings about death or dying and other emotional, mental environmental or physical limitations.
- Assess and complete the sections of the (MDS) Minimum Data Set assigned completely, timely and accurately.
- Document the social service component of the Comprehensive Care Plan for each resident in a timely manner
- Document psycho-social needs, interaction and follow-up action(s) with resident and/or family according to facility policies and procedures.
- Assess, plan and document residents’ discharge needs in accordance with facility discharge planning policy and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate family and community resources as needed to solve financial needs and to promote emotional security.
Requirements for the Director for Social Services:
- Bachelor's degree in social work of a bachelor's degree in human services field. MSW preferred
- Knowledge of Long Term Care regulations is a plus
- Point Click care, MDS's and Care plans experience a plus
