Library Services Director jobs in Parkersburg, WV

A successful candidate must have availability and flexibility in the daytime, evenings and a regular weekend rotation. Compensation is $9.75 an hour, no benefits are included in this position.

Primary Function: Performs a variety of library circulation and clerical procedures with a heavy concentration of public contact. Strong customer service skills and a love of reading are musts!

Qualifications, Education, Experience, Skills, etc. include:

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to work set day, night and weekend shifts as required
• Ability to work independently

• Written and verbal communication skills
• Flexibility to deal with multiple unexpected tasks and patrons simultaneously
• Ability to operate electronic equipment including computers, printers, copiers, etc.
• Able to regularly lift up to 25 lbs.

Specific duties:

• Performs all circulation desk duties, including but not limited to:
• Check materials in/out and renew materials
• Maintains computerized patron accounts, prepares and issues library cards, and collects fines and other money for library services
• Organizes library materials, including shelving, shifting, weeding and processing new materials
• Assists with library events/programs and displays (ex.: registration, signs, crafts, etc.)
• Interacts with other library staff and patrons in a friendly, approachable way
• Computer skills
• Knowledge of Windows and basic word processing functions
• Familiarity to assist patrons with computers, laptops, smart phones or tablets (either Apple or Android)
• Handling basic reference, tech support and online resource questions, or properly refers questions to person in charge
• Ability to locate materials in library through public catalog, Overdrive or other library procedures like inter-library loan
• Willingness to learn new skills to help library patrons
• Other duties as assigned by supervisors in assigned work area

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $9.75 - $9.76 per hour

Expected hours: 28 per week
