Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Department Summary

    The Circulation Department is in charge of providing patrons with assistance when checking out or returning library materials, such as books, textbooks, or laptops. The staff in this department also answers general and directional questions for patrons. The Department maintains a Reserve Collection made up of textbooks and other materials deposited by faculty for use by students. This department also oversees the duplicating and scanning equipment in the Copy Room.

    Job Summary

    The Circulation Assistant will be helping to staff the Check-out Desk and assist patrons checking materials in and out; assist patrons with issues on copy machines, printers and scanners; answer general/directional questions in person and on the phone and assist with maintaining the Reserves Collection and patron accounts.

    Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
    • Check library materials in and out.
    • Assist patrons with issues on equipment (printers, etc.)
    • Answer patrons' questions & support information inquiries regarding policies.
    • Create or update library accounts.
    • Assist with guiding student workers and communicate workflow.
    • Instruct patrons how to pay fines via their online library account.
    • Assist with maintaining the course reserves collection & communicate with faculty.
    • Use library automated systems to determine status of and provide information on materials checked out by patrons.
    • Act as backup staff in emergency staffing situations.
    • Other job-related duties as assigned.



    Employment Status: Full-time, "non-exempt", probationary position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

    Work Schedule

    Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

    Key Qualifications
    • General knowledge of library policies and procedures and more specific knowledge of policies and procedures and work methods pertaining to the assigned functional area and work unit.
    • Working knowledge of library terms and bibliographic formats and structures, including the ability to conduct a simple bibliographic search.
    • Familiarity with institution's and library's ethical policies and practices associated with use of and access to library resources, including networked resources, as well as familiarity with established standards related to copyright and intellectual property protection.
    • Knowledge of basic library research methodology and the ability to use it.
    • Ability to use the library system(s) and subsystem(s) module(s) to perform assigned duties.
    • Ability to access various on-line resources and databases used within the library and to use their standard features to perform technical work and/or assist patrons.
    • Experience working in library setting and demonstrated experience with standard computer software applications.
    • Experience providing customer service to a diverse clientele in a learning environment and ability to assist library users in a professional, supportive manner.
    • Be able to work cooperatively with others in a busy environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply rules in accordance with policy, regulations and procedures under varying circumstances.
    • Ability to use standard features of office support technology and standard software packages.
    • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to perform standard arithmetic operations.
    • Ability to work under minimal supervision to perform assigned duties.
    • Demonstrated ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.
    • Ability to maintain effective communication on all levels and follow unit workflow.
    • General understanding of library terminology and library automated systems.

    Education and Experience
    • Completion of a High School Education or equivalent certification.
    • Two years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • A Bachelor's degree.
    • Experience in an academic library.

    Salary

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,161 - $3,246 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $3,161 - $5,289 per month
