Summary:
The position serves as a Federal Library Proofreader for the Collections Holding and Inventory Improvement Project (CHIIP), located at the Library of Congress. The position reports to the respective Assistant Project Manager(s) and performs duties of quality control of inventoried serials, monographs, and other various collections.
Work is primarily done in collections storage areas which are often at a lower temperature than a standard office environment. Work is physical in nature requiring frequent standing, walking, pushing, stooping, and stretching. Work requires ability to perform moderate lifting - up to 44 lbs.
This position will work a fixed work schedule (40 hours/week).
Duties:
You will review, verify, create update and process collections’ bibliographic (BREC), holdings (HREC) and item (IREC) records in the LC ILS or other designated databases. This includes ensuring that the collection storage locations, basic data control, preserving, rehousing, and labels/stickers are correct. The incumbent will need review, verify, update, and process fields such as but not limited to the fields listed below, to ensure that the IREC matches item in hand:
You will keep records on each batch that is reviewed, and assist in training Federal Library Technicians as needed.
You will also perform inventory if needed.
