Our Regulatory Compliance Unit in our Business and Professions Division (BPD) is currently recruiting for two (2) Professional Licensing Representative 1s who are passionate about the work we do to join their team!
We are one of the most public facing state agencies and the second largest revenue generating agency in Washington State. We regularly interact with over 6 million Washington residents. We advance public safety and consumer protection through licensing, regulation, and education, and collect over $3 billion in revenue. Our Business & Professions Division (BPD) has 39 business and professional licensing programs and overall manages 42 programs, providing oversight of Combative Sports events, maintaining Uniform Commercial Code filings, administering the Centralized Investigations & Audits Unit (CIAU), Performing Rights Society registration, and maintaining the Firearms database for law enforcement.

Duties
As a Professional Licensing Representative, you will manage your own compliance caseload as it relates to disciplinary actions. Setting up and maintaining legal files, information analysis, and tracking systems will be a part of your daily role. Additionally, significant comfort with holding internal and external customers accountable is key for success in the role. Your ability to prioritize your workload will be important as you work independently to follow up and fully process work tasks with varying priorities. Be prepared to make approval and denial recommendations, while also ensuring clear communication regarding compliance and complaints from Washington residents.
Some of what you will do:

Review and interpret investigative reports to support drafting disciplinary documents and ensure due process is given and proper statutory authority surrounding complaints are followed.

Review suitability screening submissions for license eligibility and influence decisions for disqualifications and investigations.

Manage requests for brief adjudicative proceedings in a timely manner consistent with applicable laws and rules and in coordination with other staff.

Review criminal conviction submissions for license eligibility to identify disqualifying information.

Track case files, monitor case status, and adhere to case timelines for internal and external compliance requirements.
Qualifications
What you will bring:
-
Four (4) years of experience providing professional customer service assisting customers, resolving complaints or questions using knowledge and interpretation of laws, rules, and regulations.
Up to four (4) years of relevant education* may substitute year for year for experience.
(Associate degree = 2 years bachelor’s degree = 4 years)
- Relevant education will include major study in business or public administration, criminal justice, or closely allied field.

Experience must include:
-
Knowledge and experience communicating interpretation of complex laws, rules, policies, or procedures and applying that understanding in relevant work experience to customers.

Two (2) years of experience:
-
Composing written correspondence, professional documents, letters, legal documents, memos, etc. and communicating clear, professionally appropriate, instructions and responses to customers through email and written responses and requests.

Using Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint (or similar programs).
Experience can be gained concurrently.
What may help set you apart:-
One (1) year of demonstrated ability for organizing multiple assignments, case file management or involving competing priorities to produce work products that are accurate, thorough, and timely.

Knowledge and experience using the Department of Licensing's POLARIS and DRIVES systems.

Bachelor's degree involving major study in business administration, public administration, criminal justice, pre-law, social or behavioral science or allied field.
