Additionally, Life Underwriting Director typically requires Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification or Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation. Typically reports to top management. The Life Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     PURPOSE

    The Director of Residence Life fosters student development, promotes student success, plans and supervises all activities and programming in Residence Life, and works to create a positive culture at LPU. The Director of Residence Life recommends and/or maintains policies and procedures outlined in the student handbook and handles all student conduct and Title IX cases on campus. The Dean will work closely with the Vice President of Student Life to help establish long and short-term retention goals. 


    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

     

    The Director of Residence Life manages the Office of Residence Life, student conduct, Title IX cases and is an active and contributing member of the student life department. The Associate Dean and Director of Residence Life advise a full-time professional staff member and several student staff members. This position reports directly to the COO and Vice President of Student Life.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

     

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Provide leadership, support, mentoring, and accountability to the residence life staff through effective staff selection   practices, training and development, supervision, and evaluation. 
    • Enhance the student experience by developing, implementing, and assessing campus activities that build community and support student learning.
    • Review and update all publications, procedures, and policies, including but not limited to the student handbook, website, training manual, housing documents, etc. 
    • Administrate all functions of student housing,   including the housing selection process, new student assignments, check-in/check-out procedures, summer housing, etc.
    • Serve as an instructor for the First Year Seminar Course.
    • Operates as a Success Coach for first-year students.
    • Maintain high levels of availability, including participation in an on-call rotation. This position must live within 5 minutes of LPU’s campus.
    • Be prepared to assist in crisis intervention situations, offer support, and follow up with students. 
    • Operates as the chief student conduct officer on campus.
    • Operates as the chair of the student care team.
    • Acts as Title IX Investigator and/or Deputy Coordinator for student issues.
    • Operates as liaison with counseling services provided by Emmaus Road.
    • Provide assistance and support for activities and services that advance the goals of the Office of Student Life.
    • Participate in all campus-wide and departmental meetings and trainings.
    • Model caring relationships with students through personal interaction and as an effective role model of a Christian life.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities, including membership in relevant associations, attendance at annual conferences and training institutes, and frequent reading of emerging literature within the field.
    • Completes other projects and duties as assigned by the VP of Student Life.

    NOTE: Though not required, this position is optionally eligible for appointment as a Foursquare minister under certain conditions. If appointed as a minister, the employee will be available to provide pastoral care and prayer. In addition, s/he may be called upon to perform sacerdotal duties upon the request of the University. 

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A master's degree in student affairs/life or a related field.
    • 3 years of experience in a leadership position in student life at an institution of higher education (preferably Christian higher education). A record of increased leadership responsibility in student life is preferred.
    • Demonstrated inspirational leadership ability and effectiveness in program development.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop, mentor, and mobilize staff and students.
    • Commitment to a learner-centered environment leading to student success and retention.
    • Organizational and administrative ability to oversee the development of budget, manage resource allocation, and use data/research in developing and assessing initiatives for student  success.
    • Committed to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the general constituency of Life Pacific.
    • Demonstrated culturally competent communication skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment to working with and engaging diverse students and colleagues.
    • Demonstrated Christian faith consistent with Life Pacific’s Pentecostal/Charismatic stance (must be able to sign Life Pacific’s Statement of Faith and align with its position on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity).
