Alabama State University, Division of Student Affairs, invites qualified candidates to apply for Assistant Director of Housing & Residence Life. The Department of Housing & Residence Life fosters a safe, supportive and inclusive community that strives to develop educated and engaged citizens in a global society who act and lead with integrity. The Assistant Director supports and assists the Director in leading the Department of Housing & Residence Life, a comprehensive residential education and housing program. The Assistant Director will assist in developing and sustaining a housing and residential life program that supports the mission of the University, optimizes individual growth, facilitates and acceptance and appreciation of individual and group responsibility and fosters community development.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the overall administrative, policy and decision making process of the Housing and Residence Life Office
- Assist with recruitment, selection, and training of all residence hall staff members
- Assist in the daily supervision and evaluation of all housing staff members
- Assist in all aspects of the housing assignment process to include room sign up, new student assignment and notifications, reassignment of returning students, refund requests, room change, private room assignment, withdrawal and consolidations; record maintenance such as applications, room change requests, etc.
- Coordinate the residence hall conduct process regarding resident policy and procedure violations
- Continuously update and revise the necessary policies and procedures for the areas that are coordinated by the assistant director
- Supervise programming and activities in all the residence halls with the Resident Assistants (RA) and. Assistant Director should attend all campus wide programs sponsored by Housing and Residence Life and any co-sponsored university wide events.
- The Assistant Director will be on-call for the department, must maintain communication with the Director on a 24/7 basis through cell phone and serve in the Student Affairs emergency on-call duty rotation during Fall and Spring terms
- Assist in the coordination and management of the housing facilities, and documentation of maintenance issues that require follow up with the Physical Plant Department
- Actively participate in the recruitment of students for the residence hall system
- Assist in the development of marketing materials, social media communication, forms, and reports concerning the Housing and Residence Life programs
- Ensure that all Housing and Residence Life Program information is kept up current and up to date, to include , but not limited to websites, calendars, Residence Hall Handbook, applications, brochure, letters, social media outlets, email, etc.
- Assist with orientation of freshmen and transfer student
- Attend university recruitment events to discuss advantages of living on campus
- Serve as the advisor to the Residence Hall Association
- Compile and report on pertinent statistical trends concerning residence hall occupancy
- Gather data and compile statistical information for environmental assessment, cancelation surveys, as well as other issues relevant to Housing and Residence Life
- Coordinate the HornetHaul volunteer process with student organizations for Move-In Day in August
- Represent Housing and Residence Life on committees within the division or the campus, serve as liaison with other offices and departments, serve in an acting capacity in the absence of the director and perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree in student personnel services, higher education administration or related field, 2 years of experience in leadership working in student housing or residence life setting, supervising professional and student staff, demonstrated crises management skills, working knowledge and experience designing and delivering leadership, at a college or university is required.
