Life Underwriting Director directs and oversees the life insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups. Responsible for ensuring integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Life Underwriting Director provides coaching to underwriters and assists on more complex applications. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Additionally, Life Underwriting Director typically requires Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification or Fellow Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation. Typically reports to top management. The Life Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Job Summary


    The Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life contributes to the success of students involved in Georgia College & State University's sororities and fraternities by aiding in the implementation of a robust co-curricular experience. This position will develop, coordinate, and implement programs and services to promote learning and development for the councils, member organizations, and individual members. The Director of FSL oversees Panhellenic, IFC, and NPHC activities, including recruitment, new member education, leadership education, and advises the councils. The Director of FSL works in collaboration with other Student Life units to coordinate community education and events for all members of GCSU's fraternal community including Greek Week, Winter Summit, Homecoming, and other cross-council activities. The Director of FSL advises the Order of Omega honor society, as well as the United Greek Council organizations. The Director of FSL takes an active role in the university's anti-hazing initiatives and coordinates frequent anti-hazing education programs for IFC, NPHC, and Panhellenic organizations, including education during recruitment, new member periods, Hazing Awareness Week, and Winter Summit.

    Responsibilities


    Coordinating - 30
    Coordinates recruitment processes, including promotion, registration, planning, training, execution, and follow-up. Coordinates online submissions, tracking, and assessment of chapter/council programs. Manages chapter rosters and collection of grade reports. Coordinates regular meetings with chapter advisors, individually and collectively; provides ongoing communication about office processes and procedures to chapter advisors and national offices. Assists in maintaining OFSL website. Serves on the Student Life Leadership team and Student Life Programming team and collaborates with Student Life units to provide a robust and well-rounded co-curricular student experience. Responsible for playing a significant role in establishing and maintaining standards and expectations from organizations and individuals.

    Program Development - 30
    The Director oversees long and short-range goal and strategy development, program planning, marketing, expansion and assessment of a values-based community in order to enhance the quality of the fraternity and sorority life experience.
    The Director is responsible for collecting, tracking, and analyzing data and developing policy recommendations based on research; ensuring that all chapter members enjoy an environment that is physically and emotionally safe, secure, and supportive of the educational process.
    The Director collaborates with other Student Life staff to plan and implement community-wide programs including Hazing Prevention Week, Greek Week, Winter Summit, and Homecoming. Works with the four councils to develop council-wide and cross-council programming.

    Advising - 20
    Advises and coaches students one-on-one and in group settings on topics including interpersonal development, program and event planning, risk management, organizational leadership, conflict resolution, academic support, and values congruency. Assists students with mediation and decision-making. The Director serves as the primary campus representative for the Panhellenic, IFC, and NPHC communities to external constituents (parents, alumni, community leaders, national offices, etc.). The Director may appoint additional council advisors to serve in a supportive capacity for council mentorship and activities.

    Budgeting - 5
    Oversees and manages the Fraternity and Sorority Life budget and manages budget activity related to office operations, programming, and student employment. Determines budget priorities and allocates funds as needed. Collects and manages recruitment fees and assists councils with annual budgeting of chapter dues. Ensures council insurance and membership fees are properly assessed and paid.

    Other - 5
    Performing other duties as assigned including but not limited to serving on division or campus committees, develop initiatives for the department and division, and implementing special projects. The Director is responsible for sound decision making and accountability for areas of oversight.

    Supervision - 10
    The Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life supervises the Program Coordinator for FSL and Graduate Assistant. The Director provides leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation for these staff members and ensures the development of departmental goals which connect to the University¿s strategic plan.

    Required Qualifications


    Educational Requirements
    Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.

    Required Experience
    Minimum of three years of professional work experience in fraternity and sorority life or student engagement activities, or related field Experience working directly with undergraduate students.

    Preferred Qualifications


    Preferred Educational Qualifications
    Masters degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Business, Public Administration or related field;

    AND at least three years of experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Experience
    Five years of fraternity and sorority life related experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


    ABILITIES
    Ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders, including parents, campus partners, chapter advisors, and national organizations.

    KNOWLEDGE
    Knowledge of leadership curriculum development and student development theories and frameworks.
    Knowledge of program and event planning and evaluation. Working knowledge of fraternity and sorority governing council structures.
    Knowledge of risk management strategies and evaluation. Knowledge of student mentoring, coaching, and supervising.
    Working knowledge of Campus Director Recruitment software.
    Knowledge and experience with departmental budgeting.
