Light Assembler assembles fabricated parts of small or light subassemblies and completes units. Fits, tests, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product specifications. Being a Light Assembler identifies and sorts units that fail quality standards. May disassemble units to repair or refit parts as necessary. Additionally, Light Assembler operates hand tools, power tools, and other manufacturing assembly line equipment to assemble units. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Light Assembler works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.   • Job Description:
    • Read and interpret information from mechanical and/or structural blueprints, planning, process specifications, diagrams, engineering drawings and sketches, and other instructions to determine the methods and sequence of operations to layout, assemble, and install precision parts and assemblies.
    • Layout coordinated hole patterns, cutouts, trim lines, mating points, assembly, and installation locations using precision measuring instruments and equipment.
    • Assemble and mate aircraft parts and assemblies.
    • Attach structural parts and assemblies using riveting and hand and power tools, hand trim, and finish.
    • Drill, route, ream, countersink, spot-face, and counterbore parts.
    • Modify or rebuild parts to mold line or configuration changes.
    • Modify aircraft structure, installation, and mechanical systems as directed and in accordance with engineering requirements.
    • Fabricate, assemble, install, hook up, rigs, and troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical assemblies, subassemblies, operating mechanisms, electro-mechanical or hydro-mechanical, parts, and assemblies.
    • Functionally check, diagnose, locate, and correct malfunctions.
    • Rework and/or repair any aircraft assembly, pneumatic, plumbing, hydraulic, mechanical, and rigging systems, structures, and installations during assembly operations.
    • Perform experimental and developmental work operations on experimental aircraft or assemblies.
    • Assemble prefabricated parts into assemblies and mate major sections of aircraft assemblies.
    • Incorporate major engineering changes and modifications.
    • Improvise and fabricate temporary tooling, holding fixtures, and templates.
    • Use hand and power tools, layout tools, hoists and mechanical lifting equipment, test fixtures, functional test equipment, and precision measuring instruments.
    • Record fabrication, assembly, functional check data, and statistical data manually or with the aid of computer or computer-based system.
    • Perform work in both FOD critical and FOD sensitive environments and ensure all assemblies and detail parts are free of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) and non-conformances issues.
    • Check units for compliance using handheld precision measuring equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, and scales.
    • Report all non-conformances to manufacturing supervision or corrective action representative.
    • Prepare rejection tags noting deviations from specifications on dimensions, finishes, material, processes, or quality when required.
    • Follow all safety procedures and report unsafe conditions to safety officials or manufacturing supervision.
    • Report on job status and restraints to coworkers and supervision.
    • Identify production inefficiencies and suggest potential improvements to the product or process.
    • Identify nonconforming detail parts, assemblies, and processes.
    • Work with engineering to improve manufacturing processes.

    • Experience with basic sheet metal, riveting, assembly methods, and common shop practices.
    • Experience interpreting and working from blueprints, sketches, and written and verbal instructions.
    • Experience applying shop math.
    • Experience using computer systems for shop applications.
    • Experience with rigging and the installation of operating mechanisms structures, assemblies, and parts or related systems and equipment.
    • Ability to work with others as part of a team which includes giving and receiving feedback, and assisting others in the completion of tasks.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces, including kneeling, crawling, climbing, and bending.
    • Ability to take Sheet Metal Assessment.
    • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and weekends when necessary to support factory and operations activities.
    • High School diploma or equivalent.
