Position Summary:
The Washington Examiner seeks a highly motivated and talented Congressional Reporter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive and insightful coverage of the House of Representatives, focusing on setting the agenda with exclusive stories, breaking news, political developments, and key legislative battles.
Responsibilities:
- Breaking News Coverage: Quickly and accurately report on breaking news events originating from the House of Representatives, including votes, speeches, and press conferences.
- Exclusive Reporting: Generate original, in-depth, and exclusive stories on key House members, committees, and legislative initiatives. This includes conducting interviews, analyzing data, and uncovering exclusive information.
- Enterprise Reporting: Conduct investigative reporting on issues impacting the House, including campaign finance, lobbying, and ethics.
- Daily Coverage: Produce timely and insightful news articles, videos, and social media content covering the daily activities and developments within the House.
- Build Sources: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with House members, staff, lobbyists, and other key sources.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a reporter, preferably covering politics and Congress.
- Strong reporting skills: Excellent news judgment, strong writing, and the ability to quickly and accurately gather and synthesize information.
- Investigative skills: Experience conducting investigations and uncovering exclusive stories.
- Strong work ethic: Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a general audience.
- Knowledge of politics: Deep understanding of the legislative process, political dynamics, and key players in the House of Representatives.
- Strong network: Existing relationships with House members, staff, and other key sources.
- Digital fluency: Proficiency in social media and other digital platforms.
- Degree in journalism or related field: Preferred, but not required.
