About this Position: The City of Hesperia is looking to fill our Plans Examiner vacancy. Under general supervision, the Plans Examiner performs independent building and plan examinations for construction or alteration of industrial, commercial, and residential structures; determines compliance with applicable codes, laws, and regulations; and performs other duties as assigned.
Example of Duties: Checks plans, specifications, and calculations on building plans submitted by architects, engineers, contractors, and owners for compliance with structural design, zoning, grading, soil reports, energy standards, disabled access, and general conformity to applicable ordinances, laws and State building codes. Advises building inspectors on structural and other building related problems arising in the field during construction. Assists customers in person and over the phone answering questions and providing instructions to architects, engineers, contractors, homeowners, other customers, and staff regarding building requirements, structural application of various codes, and requirements to achieve compliance standard.
Qualifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment, a Plans Examiner Certificate issued by the International Code Council or equivalent. Related field and in-office plans check experience with a California based Municipality perferred. Local Government experience preferred.
