Job Summary:
The position of Logistics Supervisor based in Springfield, VT involves overseeing all aspects of the transportation function in a fast-paced, customer-focused setting. This includes tasks such as selecting qualified drivers, planning routes, ensuring safety, supervising unloading, managing fleet maintenance, building customer and driver relationships, and ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Operating Company regulations. Additionally, the role involves participating in driver selection and orientation, handling employee relations matters including disciplinary actions, monitoring DOT and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) compliance, managing Transportation Supervisors, and monitoring the routing process to ensure customer satisfaction. The Logistics Supervisor is expected to work collaboratively as a team member within the department and organization, carrying out any assigned duties to effectively serve the company.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervise Transportation Supervisor and/or a team of drivers to ensure safe, efficient, and timely deliveries that maintain dependability and customer satisfaction. Manage drivers by hiring, scheduling, providing training and guidance, establishing job standards, and regularly evaluating performance.
- Oversee the day-to-day administration of the delivery function, including managing, monitoring, and approving department expenses, calculating driver payroll, reviewing driver trip and expense reports, and resolving any identified problems. Operate fleet management systems (e.g., Tripmaster and Xata) by using a computer keyboard to enter and access data, while also ensuring the truck computer system is monitored and maintained.
- Prepare the annual transportation operating budget, perform cost analyses (e.g., truck leases, fuel consumption), and coordinate financial reporting.
- Collaborate closely with the Warehouse Manager to maximize operational efficiency.
- Create truck delivery schedules and routes on a daily basis, including managing backhauls and making adjustments to meet customer requirements and maximize route profitability. Take responsibility for equipment scheduling and maintenance. Analyze equipment needs (trucks, tractors, trailers) and determine the necessary type and quantity. Arrange rental of additional vehicles when required and schedule equipment maintenance as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations by monitoring DOT logs and ensuring drivers adhere to the regulations. Be responsible for enforcing safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain and update all pertinent information on drivers, including license, DOT medical certification, traffic violation tickets, accident records, and other risk and safety-related data.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent Experience
4-6 years of transportation experience, including a strong understanding of DOT regulations and familiarity with computerized fleet management systems.
Experience in a team lead or supervisory role.
A valid driver’s license is required.
