Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. CNC Machinist/Programmer Position
Job Objective: The objective for the CNC Machinist/Programmer is to accurately create and revise programs using Mastercam that are compliant to CMC customers’ specifications and requirements, performing set up and operation requirements between programming assignments (operation only for small runs).
CMC Expectations of a Successful Machinist/Programmer:
o Write and verify CNC programs to create complex compliant parts on 3-5 axis HAAS CNC machining centers.
o Create and verify necessary documents to aid in setting up machines.
o Accurately document work on the production work order, and note any changes and/or recommendations that are needed for future runs.
o Follow Preventive Maintenance procedures, and assist when required.
o Follow and support CMC safety requirements, such as wearing the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
o Ready to work from the start of the shift until the end.
o Follow all company policies, for example, Quality, Safety, and Employee Manual.
Skills of CNC Machinist/Programmer:
 Math Skills: Good math skills will help programmers understand complex instructions, how plans work and make sure items are designed and built correctly.
 Problem Solving Skills: Programmers will need to understand CMC capabilities, and look for solutions and alternatives that meet the customers’ needs.
 Attention to Detail: Producing quality parts start in programming. It is essential that programmers verify the program to the customers’ specifications and requirements.
 Mechanical and Technical Skills: For machines controlled by computers, and programmers will need to work efficiently with and understand CAD/CAM technology.
 Analytical Skills: Programmers will need to read and understand blueprints, drawings, models and other specifications.
